Raper - Evans
FREMONT — Laura Elizabeth Evans and Alex Raper exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony May 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Fremont United Methodist Church, with Martin Armstrong officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Steven Thomas and Tammy Grady Evans of Fremont and the granddaughter of Junius Anthony Evans and the late Barbara White Evans of Fremont, Billy Ray and Mary Vance Grady of Dudley and Christine T. Evans.
She is a 2004 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School and a 2009 graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree in special education. She is employed by Wayne County Public Schools.
The groom is the son of Edward “Shorty” and Susan May Raper of Pikeville and the grandson of the late Lucille and Arthur Raper of Lucama and Russell and Florence May of Fremont.
He is a 2005 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. He is employed as a department manager at Lowes.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a formal gown of beaded ivory lace that covered the entire gown designed with a V-neckline. The empire waist was enhanced with a row of scalloped pearls that flowed into an A-line shirt. The back bodice featured a V-back that cascaded into a semi-cathedral train.
Her headpiece was a comb of rhinestones and pearls that extended into a single-tiered veil of silk illusion fashioned with a scalloped edge of bugle beads enhanced with an embroidered floral design.
The bride carried a bouquet of miniature calla lilies and roses.
Gail Evans Price was her sister’s matron of honor, while Lauren Wooten was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Laura Smith and Allison Evans, sister of the bride.
Stephen Tyndall was best man.
Groomsmen were Preston Vernon, Travis Kirby, brother of the bride, and Stevie Evans.
Elizabeth Carter was flower girl. David Ethan Price, nephew of the bride, was ringbearer.
Betsey Smith directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Christie Milleson, cousin of the bride. Kasey Heath, niece of the groom, distributed programs.
Special helpers were James May, uncle of the groom, and Lynda Stewart.
A program of wedding music was provided by Sylvia Overman, pianist, and Jean Milleson, aunt of the bride, and Gail Price, sister of the bride, vocalists.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parent hosted a dinner reception at the church.
After their wedding trip to Emerald Isle, the couple now resides in Fremont.
Events held before the wedding included a bridal shower at Fremont United Methodist Church hosted by the couple’s aunts; a bachelorette party at the home of the Gail Price, sister of the bride, hosted by Ms. Price; a lawn party at the home of Stephen Tyndall hosted by Tyndall; a bridal brunch at the home of Nancy Evans, aunt of the bride, hosted by Ms. Evans; and a bridal shower at Tommy’s Road Elementary School hosted by Sarah Merritt.
A rehearsal dinner was held May 15 at Fremont United Methodist Church.
