McGowan - Lewis
Carolyn Jeffreys Lewis and David Foy McGowan III exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Aug. 11 at 5 p.m. at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Morton Eugene Carpenter officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Anderson Lewis of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of James Talbot Jeffreys Jr. of Goldsboro, the late Lois Taylor Jeffreys and the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Franklin “Dutch” Lewis.
She is a graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a graduate of Johnston Community College with a registered nurse certification. She was presented at the 1997 Debutante Ball. She is employed with Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Foy McGowan Jr. of Wilmington and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Parham of Smithfield, Elizabeth Urbanski McGowan of Chapel Hill and the late David Foy McGowan.
He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He is employed with the North Carolina Association of Realtors of Raleigh.
The bride was given in marriage by her father.
She wore an ivory silk taffeta gown accented with Alencon lace, crystal beads and sequins.
Her headpiece was her mother’s chapel-length mantilla of imported silk illusion bordered with Venise lace appliqués.
Alison Lewis Nipper was her sister’s matron of honor, while Jennifer Anderson Lewis, sister of the bride, was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Melissa Leigh Bamonte of Charlotte, Allison Barrow Bayes of Swedesboro, N.J., Jennings Parham McGowan of Wilmington, sister of the groom, Sarah Mansfield Watson of Raleigh and Ashley Michelle Wyatt of Greenville.
David Foy McGowan Jr. was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were David Lee Fitch of Chapel Hill, Thomas Kidder Gore and George Trask Miars Jr. of Charleston, S.C., Marshall Bart Hardison of Gibsonville, Paul Whitaker Howard of Raleigh, cousin of the groom, and Andrew Hartley Nelson of Durham.
Ushers were James Oliver Carter III, Robert Chestley Nipper and Murdoch Macrae Dunn Jr. of Wilmington and Thomas Smith Jordan of Raleigh.
Ellen Gay Elmore, cousin of the bride, was the crucifer. Thomas Edgar Elmore IV, cousin of the bride, was the acolyte.
Elizabeth Taylor Jeffreys, cousin of the bride, and James Oliver Carter III, friend of the couple, were readers.
Sandra Leigh Jenkins and Mildred Louise Wooten distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by William Bryant Hayes, organist; Joseph Lawrence Brinson, trumpeter; and Stephen Ehrnst Rushing, vocalist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Walnut Creek Country Club.
After a wedding trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the couple will reside in Raleigh.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner Aug. 10 at Walnut Creek Country Club.
