Sykes - Whitley
EMERALD ISLE — Sarah Bynum Whitley and Neel Lee Sykes exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 16 at 6:45 p.m. at Surf du Soleil, with the Rev. Christopher Turner officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Whitley Jr. of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Daniel Whitley Sr., Marguerite Waldenmaier Whitley, R. William Bynum III and Jean Reddick Bynum of Stantonsburg.
She is a graduate of Wayne Country Day and East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art. She was presented at the North Carolina Debutante Ball in 2004.
The groom is the son of James Marion and Jennifer Cooke Sykes of Mount Olive and the grandson of Charles O’Neal and Dorothy Draughon Sykes of Mount Olive and Dorothy Warrick Cooke of Goldsboro.
He graduated from Wayne Country Day and James Sprunt Community College with an associate degree in electrical electronics. He will attend East Carolina University for a bachelor’s degree in construction management.
The bride was given in marriage by father.
She wore a dress of four-ply silk satin and Alencon lace with seed pearls and iridescent sequins. It had a drop waist and an embellished lace off-the-shoulder bodice that gave way to draped silk sleevelets. It had an embellished lace-accented skirt that faded into a cathedral train accented with vines and a border of the embellished lace.
Her headpiece was a veil of sheer silk illusion bordered with satin ribbon.
The bride carried a bouquet of stargazer lilies, green hydrangea and white miniature calla lilies.
Jennifer Laura Knutson was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Maggy Kennedy Jones and Amy Nowell Rhymer, sorority sisters of the bride; Mariana Garcia, friend of the bride; and Stephanie Lauren Sykes, sister of the groom.
James Marion Sykes was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Christopher Charles Sykes, brother of the groom; Daniel Whitley III and William Macon Whitley, brothers of the bride; and Casey Lee Anderson, friend of the groom.
Mandy Moreale directed the wedding.
Honorary bridesmaids were Emily Ann Bynum, cousin of the bride, and Amanda Whaley Anderson, friend of the couple.
A program of wedding music was provided by Amanda Whaley Anderson and Amy Nowell Rhymer, vocalists.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Surf du Soleil.
After a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple reside in Greenville.
Events held before the wedding included a dinner and dance June 2 at Southern Wayne Country Club hosted by the groom’s family; a dinner party May 18 at the Brass Lantern in Dunn hosted by the groom’s family; an engagement party Jan. 6 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Logan hosted by friends; a Christmas shower Nov. 26 hosted by Susana Garcia and Mariana Garcia; and a bridesmaid’s luncheon at White Oak River Bistro in Swansboro hosted Faye Bynum, aunt of the bride, and Marguerite Whitley and Jean Bynum, grandmothers of the bride.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner June 15 at the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.
