Octavia Tawana Armond and Ronnie Carlos Johnson exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 16 at noon at Goldsboro-Raleigh Assembly, with Apostle Walter L. Barbour and the Rev. Claude Foy III of Trenton, uncle of the bride, officiating.
The bride is the daughter of McDonald Sr. and Robin Armond of Dudley and the granddaughter of Bernice Armond of Vandemere and the late Claude and Josephine Foy and Henry Armond.
She is a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and Elizabeth City State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. She is employed with Wayne County Public Schools as a music educator.
The groom is the son of Herbert W. and Delores Johnson of Accokeek, Md., and the grandson of the late Alvin and Shirley Johnson.
He graduated from Gwynn Park High School in Maryland and Mount Olive College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. He served as a paralegal in the Air Force. He is employed as a claims representative with the Social Security Administration.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a formal white sheath one-piece strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline and a zipper back closure in Roma Dupion Silk. The overlaid Schiffli lace embellished with scattered clear sequins, Swarovski crystal bead clusters and white seed pearls created the fitted bodice. Dupion silk asymmetrically fell to a side pleat at the right where the Schiffli lace ended. The full-length trumpet design skirt cascaded into a chapel-length train.
Her headpiece was a tiara of gold and Australian crystals that peaked in the center front with a detachable diamond-white cathedral-length veil with scattered Australian and Swarovski crystals.
The bride carried a cascading bouquet of miniature and large calla lilies accented with lilies of the field and greenery embellished with Australian crystals in the center of each bloom. Flowing onto the loops of white sheer organza ribbon were iridescent beaded trimmings.
Lowanda Sherrod of Goldsboro was her friend’s matron of honor, while Cynthia Royal of Atlanta, Ga., friend of the bride, was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Gisele Abron of Greensboro, cousin of the bride; Allison Lambert of Greensboro, and Tonya Barbour of Goldsboro, friends of the bride; and Tennille Daniels of Baltimore, Md., niece of the groom.
Darryl Gibson of Clayton and Min. David Frederick of Raleigh, friends of the groom, were best men.
Groomsmen were McDonald Armond Jr. of Jacksonville, ,Ala., brother of the bride; Roy Green of Durham and George Johnson of Mount Olive, friends of the groom; and Jason Johnson of Okinawa, Japan, uncle of the groom.
Ushers, greeters, hostesses and valets were relatives and friends of the couple.
The honorary bridal court included Pastor Izola Barbour of Goldsboro; Pastors William and Gale Shiver of Greenville, Min. Shirley Coley of Goldsboro and Roger and Paula Minor of Charlotte, friends of the couple; Spencer and Mary Singleton of Charlotte, godparents of the bride; Robert and Geneva Foy of Virginia Beach, Va., uncle and aunt of the bride; and Neicy Jackson-Foy of Trenton and Beulah Armond of Greensboro, aunts of the bride.
Junior Attendants were Rhyna Minor of Winchester, Va., friend of the bride; Shekinah Bryant of Fayetteville; Diamond Thompson of Goldsboro, friend of the couple; and Tisean McGarrell of Hampton, Va., cousin of the bride.
DeKiya and DeShara Thomas of Goldsboro, friends of the couple, were flower girls. Jamari Miller of Pollocksville, cousin of the bride, was ringbearer.
Cup Bearer was Willie Bowman Jr. of Bronx, N.Y., cousin of the bride.
Addie Bryant of Dudley, friend of the couple, directed the wedding. Neicy Jackson-Foy, aunt, and Audrea White of Charlotte, friend of the bride, coordinated the wedding.
A program of wedding music was provided by Neressia Ross and Allison Lambert, family and friends of the couple, vocalists, and Min. Patricia Grantham, Bobby Sherard, Milton Waters, Dujuan Gardner, Adrian Gardner, Spencer Singleton and Wayne White, family and friends of the couple.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the church fellowship hall. Corey and Emika Barbour of Wilmington and Jeffrey and Gwen Aultman of Dudley, friends of the couple, greeted guests. Gwen Aultman of Dudley, friend of the couple, was director. Presiding at the gift register were Carlton and Peggy Kornegay of Dudley, friends of the couple.
Out-of-town guests were from Atlanta, Alabama, the Bahamas, Florida, Maryland, Nebraska, Saudi Arabia, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
After a wedding cruise to the southern Caribbean, the couple reside in Goldsboro.
Events before the wedding included a weekend getaway June 9 through 11 to the Rivers Resort in Fayetteville, W. Va., hosted by the groomsmen; a miscellaneous shower June 6 at Spring Creek Elementary School hosted by school employees; a miscellaneous shower June 6 hosted by employees of the Social Security Administration office; a lingerie shower June 2 at the home of Min. Shirley Coley hosted by the bridesmaids; a bridesmaids’ getaway shopping weekend May 18 through 20 in New York; a miscellaneous shower May 5 at the home of the bride’s parents hosted by the bridesmaids; and a first Christmas shower Dec. 23 at the home of Jeff and Gwen Aultman hosted by Stephanie Sutton, Shauna and Gwen Aultman, friends of the couple.
The bride’s parents held a pre-rehearsal luncheon June 15 at their home.
