GRANTHAM — Christy Michelle May and Michael Fred Cox Jr. pledged their marriage vows Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m.
Pastor Ron Varner officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Falling Creek Baptist Church.
William and Patsy May of Pikeville are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Thorne of Battleboro and the late Mr. and Mrs. Bertice May of Pikeville.
Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Michael Fred Cox Sr. of Goldsboro. He is the grandson of the late Jark Cox and Helen Cox of Grantham, the late Bob Settles and Helen Settles of Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a white strapless A-line with beaded and sequin lace and a train.
For her headpiece, she chose a two-tiered elbow-length veil attached to a circle of rhinestones and pearls. She carried a clutch bouquet.
Laura May of Pikeville, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jamie Sutton of Grantham, sister of the groom; Jenny Westbrook of Grantham, cousin of the groom; and Jennifer Pittman of Raleigh and Stacie Sasser of Pikeville, friends of the bride.
Michael Fred Cox Sr. was his son’s best man. Ushers were Charles Westbrook II of Grantham, cousin of the groom, and Timothy Fail, Christopher Brock and Aldon Cox, friends of the groom.
Honorary bridesmaids were Amanda Cox of Grantham, sister of the groom, and Ginny Teachey and Tracy Owens, friends of the bride.
Chloe Sutton of Grantham was flower girl.
Debra Lane directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Melissa Thorne of Greenville. Jennifer Thorne of Rocky Mount distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Brian Weeks, pianist and vocalist; Sadie Neel, organist; and Kim Kennedy, vocalist.
After a wedding cruise to Mexico and Jamaica, the couple is residing in Grantham.
The bride is a 1999 graduate of Charles B. Aycock High School. She attends Johnston Community College for the radiology program. She is employed with Cosmetic Outlet Co. of Smithfield.
The groom graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1997. He attended Lenoir Community College. He is employed as a line and service technician with Progress Energy.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the church. Keith and Beverly Westbrook and David and Sue Hill greeted guests. Gale Joyner of Rocky Mount and Paulette Tart poured punch. Agnes Smith and Frances Tadlock served the wedding cake. Hunter and Hannah Kennedy of Pikeville distributed birdseed bags. Mollie Ann and Claire Kennedy of Grantham distributed favors.
On May 7, a luau rehearsal dinner was held at the home of the groom’s parents.
Helen Cox held a bridal dinner May 2 at Oliver’s.
April 23 through 25, a bachelorette weekend was held in Wilmington.
On April 22, Jamie Cox held a pedicure shower at the home of Beverly Westbrook.
Agnes Smith and Frances Tadlock held a miscellaneous shower March 28 at Holiday Inn Express.
On March 21, friends and family held a miscellaneous shower at Falling Creek Church.
Amanda Cox and Jamie Sutton held a Christmas shower Dec. 4.
