Smith-Miles
Shekeyla Joyce Miles became the bride of Jason Alexander Smith of Greenville April 17 at 2 p.m.
Pastor Tiffin McCarter officiated at the double-ring ceremony at First African Baptist Church.
Ronnie and Joyce Gardner of Dudley are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of Ruth Miles of Dudley and James Murphy of Goldsboro.
Dr. James III and Sandra Smith of Raleigh are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of Dr. James Jr. and Elsie Smith of Springfield, Mass.
Given in marriage by her mother and stepfather and escorted by her mother, the bride wore a strapless, pink embroidered bustier bodice with a sweetheart neckline over an A-line skirt with a chapel-length train. The matte Italian satin gown featured pink and silver embroidered Schiffli lace and beading detail.
For her headpiece, she chose a tiara of silver and pearls with a veil embellished with pearls. She carried a bouquet of pink and white tulips, roses and pansies accented with pink and silver ribbons.
Carmelita Clay was matron of honor. Shauna Lucas was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Virginia Russell, sister of the bride, and Latasha Owens, Denise Williams, Devetta Miles, Laquita Carter, Jowanda Powell, Rhonda Hinton and Lachelle Wooten, family and friends of the bride.
Harry Miller was best man. Groomsmen were Brian Smith, brother of the groom, and Kamari Mitchell, Adrian Floyd, Kiru Mendez, Kevin Jones, Mark Rodenbaugh and Robert Arrington, friends of the groom.
Jada Powell was the junior bridesmaid.
Angelina Arrington was flower girl. Jazz Felton was ring bearer.
Gladys Diggs directed the ceremony. Presiding at the registers were Amena Smith and Danielle Miles. The ushers distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Roderick Stevenson, pianist; Douglas Davis, Alfonzo Jones, Tara Worrell and Chessica Hodges, vocalists; Samuel Reid, drummer; and Kristopher Justo, saxophonist.
After a wedding cruise to Montego Bay, Jamaica; Grand Caymen and Cozumel, Mexico; and New Orleans, La., the couple will reside in Greenville.
The bride is a graduate of Southern Wayne High School and East Carolina University. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She is employed as an English teacher at Charles B. Aycock High School.
The groom graduated from Wake Forest Rolesville High School and East Carolina University. He is employed as a research scientist with PhytoMyco Research Corp.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Dillard Alumni Center’s H.V. Brown Hall.
Shauna Lucas and Latasha Owens held a lingerie shower.
Colleagues at Charles B. Aycock High School held a general shower.
A rehearsal dinner was held at Hikari Japanese Restaurant.
