Gardner-Amerson
Hattie Amerson became the bride of Marvin Gardner Jan. 10 at 1 p.m.
Bishop Alton Smith officiated at the double-ring ceremony at St. Mark Church of Christ.
Parents of the bride are the late Maggie McClain and Roosevelt Amerson.
Parents of the groom are the late Helen Boykin Austion and Pinzo Gardner.
Presented in marriage by her family and escorted by her son, Charles Wilson, the bride wore a long-sleeved white silk satin gown with a bodice of lace accented with diamonds and pearls. It had an A-line skirt in front and a chapel-length train in back.
For her headpiece, she chose a satin and pearl tiara and a single chapel-length pearl tulle illusion veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses accented with eucalyptus.
Hester Gray of Goldsboro, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Beatrice Boykin of Clayton, cousin of the groom, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Sarah Williams of Dunn, sister of the bride, and Hazel Burgess of Petersburg, Va., sister of the groom.
Jerome Boykin of Cayton was his cousin’s best man. Groomsmen were James Burgess of Petersburg, brother-in-law of the groom, and Joseph Flanagan of LaGrange, son of the bride. Ushers were Shawn Burgess of Petersburg, nephew of the groom, and De’Mario Bowman of Goldsboro, cousin of the groom.
Monasay Matoko of Raleigh was flower girl. Josiah Simmons of Goldsboro was ring bearer.
Dorothy L. Vaught of Goldsboro, cousin of the groom, directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register and assistant director was Melvatine Matoko of Raleigh, cousin of the groom.
A program of wedding music was provided by Minister Carlos Kornegay, pianist, and Shawn Best, Minister Gamble and Jonathan Flanagan, vocalists.
After a wedding trip to Raleigh, the couple is residing in Goldsboro.
The bride is employed at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The groom is a self-employed farmer.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the church fellowship hall. Margaret Braswell and Kim Middleton, friends of the bride, served the wedding cake. Tonya Cates and Angela Wynn were hostesses.
On Jan. 9, Dorothy Vaught and De’Mario Bowman, cousins of the groom, held a rehearsal dinner at Madison’s.
