Atkins-Tingen
LAGRANGE — Joanna Hope Tingen and Benjamin Garland Atkins were united in holy matrimony Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.
The Rev. Craig Ham officiated at the double-ring ceremony at LaGrange First Missionary Baptist Church.
Kenneth Earl and Hope Denmark Tingen of LaGrange are parents of the bride. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Denmark Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel R. Tingen.
Ellen N. Maxwell of Gastonia and Woods Garland Atkins of Lake Wylie, S.C., are parents of the groom. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Emmett Atkins, Bill McKay, the late Grace Nesbitt McKay and Claude Moore Weddington.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a two-piece gown of matte satin and embroidery. The fitted strapless bodice, A-line skirt and chapel-length train were embellished with floral embroidery, pearls, sequins and crystals. The neckline and Basque waist were encircled in ivory and gold piping.
For her headpiece, she chose a mantilla lace veil that had been worn by her mother at her wedding. She carried a bouquet of ivory English roses.
Allison Stallings Taylor was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mary Hope Braswell of Wilson, cousin of the bride, Laurie Hood Jones of Kinston, Wendy Wyckoff Modlin of Grimesland and Stacey Renae Tilghman and Tracey Tilghman Whitley of Winterville.
Woods Garland Atkins was best man. Ushers were Samuel Moore Atkins and William Lontz Wilkinson Jr. of Lake Wylie, brothers of the groom; Jonathan Jake Maxwell of Charlotte, stepbrother of the groom; Kenneth Daniel Tingen of Kinston, brother of the bride; and Philip Bryant Miller of Gastonia.
Honorary bridesmaids were Amy Sessoms and Angie Stroud of Greenville, Melissa Thigpen of Kinston and Amanda Rose of LaGrange.
Donna Huggins Goodson directed the ceremony. Presiding at the register was Katie Taylor Merritt. Brodie and Charles McCarthy distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Carol Ann Murphy, organist, and Amy Thornburg Ramsaur, vocalist.
After a wedding trip to Saint Lucia, West Indies, the bride will reside in Lake Wylie and the groom will reside in Gastonia.
The bride is a graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor of arts degree in communications. She is employed as a showroom consultant with Ferguson Enterprises of Charlotte.
The groom graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor of science degree in sociology. He is employed as an associate with DHL Express of Charlotte.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents held a reception at Walnut Creek Country Club. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cobb Denmark III and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Gene Stallings of LaGrange greeted guests.
On Jan. 23, Nancy Stallings, Mary Denmark and Stephanie Barringer held a bridesmaids’ luncheon at Walnut Creek Country Club.
Laurie Jones, Tracey Whitley, Stacey Tilghman and Wendy Modlin held a basket shower Jan. 18 at the Jones home in Kinston.
On Jan. 10, LaGrange First Missionary Baptist Church held a miscellaneous shower and brunch at the community outreach center.
Allison Taylor and the bridesmaids held a lingerie shower and bachelorette party Dec. 5 in Charlotte.
On Nov. 16, Ann Sessoms, Amy Sessoms and Angie Stroud held a Christmas shower at the Sessom home in Kinston.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Goodson, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ramsaur and Mr. and Mrs. Dustin Wright held a barbecue and tool shower Nov. 15 at the Goodson home in LaGrange.
On Feb. 15, Philip and Juli Miller held an engagement party at their home in Gastonia.
The groom’s parents and Garland Atkins held a rehearsal dinner and dance at Walnut Creek Country Club.
