DUDLEY -- Luke Thigpen and Everett Oliver each had two RBI, starter Camden Noble scattered five hits over seven innings and South Lenoir turned back Southern Wayne, 8-6, on Tuesday.
The loss moved South Lenoir to 7-5 overall this season.
Kolby Anderson, Aryc Chrisman and Braxton Bradshaw each had RBI for Southern Wayne (6-5 overall), who failed to match South Lenoir's three-run outburst in the final frame.
Noble struck out nine and walked four in a stint covering 108 pitches.
North Lenoir 5,
Eastern Wayne 4
DUDLEY -- Ryan Sullivan went 2 for 3 with an RBI, but it wasn't enough to push Eastern Wayne past non-conference foe North Lenoir on Tuesday.
The 5-4 setback moved the Warriors to 3-9 overall this season.
Jason Mitchell, Andrew Fricks and leadoff man Colby Miller also contributed an RBI for Eastern Wayne, who recorded seven base hits on the afternoon.
Sophomore Wesley Case absorbed the loss for the Warriors, allowing one run on three hits in 1 2⁄3 innings of work.
Eastern Wayne returns to the diamond on April 10 as the host of ECC 3A and county rival Southern Wayne.
Softball
North Duplin claims tourney win
WARSAW -- North Duplin turned back Wallace-Rose Hill, 3-1, on Wednesday to capture the Duplin County Easter Tournament at James Kenan High School.
The victory, just a day removed from Tuesday's 11-1 shellacking of East Duplin, moved the Lady Rebels to 10-1 overall this season.
North Duplin cruised in its opener, getting two base hits apiece from Rayanna Koch, Alyssa Santos and Anna Thornton.
Callie Thornton also factored prominently, supporting her third win of the season by adding 4 RBI at the plate.
The finale proved a tougher test, with Koch, Callie Thornton and Hannah Brogden tallying a pair of base hits apiece.
Santos handled matters in the circle, allowing one run on four hits in five innings of work.
