WILSON -- Avery Browning went 1 for 3 with an RBI, senior Amane Godo allowed just two base hits over four frames and Wayne Country Day eased past defending NCISAA 2A state titlist Faith Christian, 4-1, on Saturday during first-day action of the Golden Leaf Invitational at venerable Fleming Stadium.

Browning's performance was complemented by Case Kermode, who notched a pair of base hits and Godo, who bolstered his own cause with an RBI.

Wayne Country Day (7-1) returns to the diamond on Monday, when it travels to Wilson Hunt for an 11 a.m matchup.

C.B. Aycock 9,

Southern Nash 0

WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock filed a 9-0 triumph over Big East 3A member Southern Nash on Saturday during opening-round play of the Golden Leaf Invitational in Wilson.

CBA (10-3 overall) returns to play on Monday versus Cardinal Gibbons.

First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Fleming Stadium.

Rosewood 8,

Rocky Mount 3

WILSON -- Rosewood used a five-run outburst in its half of the eighth inning to squeeze past Rocky Mount, 8-3, on Saturday at the Golden Leaf Invitational in Wilson.

The Eagles (6-2 overall) return to the diamond on Monday versus Corinth Holders.

First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Farmville Central High School.

South Central 4

WINTERVILLE -- Carson Smitherman went 3 of 4 with two RBI on Thursday to lead Charles B. Aycock to a 5-4 triumph over ECC 3A outfit South Central.

The victory moved CBA to 9-3 overall, and 3-3 in league play.

Six other Golden Falcons also recorded base hits, including Cody Whaley, who also tallied an RBI.

Senior Jordan Gay earned the victory for CBA, allowing just one hit over three innings.

Eastern Wayne 6,

J.H. Rose 4

Sophomore Landon Ginn went 2 of 4 with three RBI and struck out nine as Eastern Wayne powered past ECC 3A pillar J.H. Rose, 6-4, on Thursday.

The Warriors now stand 2-8 overall this season, and 1-3 in league matters.

Will Uzzell, Andrew Fricks, Josh Gross and Jason Mitchell also factored prominently at the dish for Eastern Wayne, tallying two hits apiece.

Mitchell, Uzzell and Colby Miller also added RBI.

Ginn was economical in earning his second victory of the season, allowing four runs on as many hits and walking just two.

Sophomore Wesley Case earned the save.

Eastern Wayne returns to the diamond on Monday, when it faces South Lenoir at Dudley.

Southern Wayne 5,

D.H. Conley 4

HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- Senior Jack Casbarro scattered four hits over 6 1⁄3 innings, Josh Grady went 2 for 3 with two RBI and Southern Wayne spilled J.H. Rose, 5-4, on Thursday.

The victory moved Southern Wayne to 6-3 overall this season, and 3-2 in league play.

Dylan Whitley also finished with two base hits for the Saints, while Braxton Bradshaw provided an RBI.

Casbarro earned his second victory of the season, striking out six and walking just one.

Kolby Anderson picked up the save.

Southern Wayne is idle until Monday, when it entertains North Lenoir.

Spring Creek 16,

Goldsboro 5

Christian Yarbrough went 2 of 4 with five RBI as visiting Spring Creek outdistanced East Central 2A neighbor Goldsboro, 16-5, on Thursday.

SC now stands 5-5 overall, and 3-3 in league matters.

The Gators also got a sound performance from junior shortstop Landon Smothers, who finished 2 for 3 with three RBI.

Jordan Ammons and Nathan Ball scored two runners apiece, while Jake Edens, Campbell Cunningham and Casey Whitfield also added an RBI.

Ammons earned the victory for Spring Creek, allowing two runs over four innings.

Goldsboro (5-4, 2-2 East Central 2A) was paced by Josh Hartsfield and Chandler Patrick, who tallied two RBI apiece.

Rosewood 10,

Neuse Charter 0

Tanner Capps went 4 of 4 with rive RBI as Rosewood shellacked Carolina 1A foe Neuse Charter, 10-0, on Thursday.

The mercy-rule triumph moved the Eagles to 5-2 overall this season, and 4-0 in league play.

Conner Vernon also added two RBI for Rosewood, which scored in each frame save the second and was never challenged.

University of Mount Olive commit Kolby Harris, Vernon and Chance Howard combined to blank the Cougars, allowing just four hits while striking out 10.

North Duplin 7,

Hobbton 2

NEWTON GROVE -- North Duplin vanquished Carolina 1A foe Hobbton, 7-2, on Thursday for its seventh triumph of the season.

The Rebels (7-2, 5-1 Carolina 1A) returns to the diamond on Tuesday versus East Duplin.

Greenville Christian 3,

Faith Christian 2

GREENVILLE -- Faith Christian Academy dropped a 3-2 affair versus host Greenville Christian on Thursday.

The setback moved the Conquerors to 4-5 overall this season, and 1-3 in league play.

FCA returns to action on April 10 as the guest of Bethel Christian.

Softball

South Central 5,

C.B. Aycock 4

WINTERVILLE -- Abigail Lancaster went 2 for 3 and Taylor Puetz blasted a three-run home run, but it wasn't enough to propel Charles B. Aycock past ECC 3A rival South Central on Thursday.

The 5-4 setback moved CBA to 9-3 overall this season, and 5-1 in league play.

Cassandra Lassiter also added a solo home run for CBA, which returns to the diamond on Tuesday versus Harnett Central.

D.H. Conley 10,

Southern Wayne 0

HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- Southern Wayne dropped a mercy-rule contest to ECC 3A outfit D.H. Conley on Thursday.

Mackenzie Bryan had two hits for the Saints, while Kelly Dail, Olivia Carr and Rebecca Coor added one apiece.

Southern Wayne (4-6, 2-3 ECC 3A) returns to the diamond on April 10 at Eastern Wayne.

Goldsboro 15,

Spring Creek 0

Goldsboro exploded for 15 runs in four innings to post a mercy-rule triumph over East Central 2A and county foe Spring Creek on Thursday.

The victory moved GHS to 5-5 overall, and 4-1 in league play. Spring Creek fell to 5-3 overall, and 2-3 in conference matters.

Cape Fear Christian 6,

ERWIN -- Leah Boswell recorded a base hit and an RBI during Wayne Christian's 6-1 setback to Cape Fear Christian on Thursday.

Bri Verme and Alyssa James also added base hits for the Lady Eagles (2-4), who return to the diamond on April 10 at Oakwood.

North Duplin 9,

Hobbton 3

NEWTON GROVE -- Courtney Brock went 3 of 4 with two RBI, Alyssa Santos scattered five hits over seven innings and North Duplin outclassed Carolina 1A outfit Hobbton, 9-3, on Thursday.

The Lady Rebels now stand 8-1 overall this season, and 4-1 in league play.

Freshman Callie Thornton also performed ably at the plate, going 2 of 4 with a pair of RBI.

Santos was solid throughout in the circle, allowing three runs and one walk while striking out four.

North Duplin is idle until Tuesday, when it faces East Duplin in the Duplin County Easter Tournament.

South Central 1

WINTERVILLE -- Haley Martin and Kayla Spier both scored goals on Thursday to pace Charles B. Aycock's overtime victory at South Central.

The 2-1 triumph moved CBA to 4-5-3 overall this season, and 2-3-1 in league play.

Spier also recorded an assist, as did her sister, Hannah.

CBA returns to the pitch on April 10 as the guest of Greene Central.

D.H. Conley 9,

Southern Wayne 0

HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- Southern Wayne fell to 2-9 overall and remained winless in league play with a 9-0 loss to ECC 3A titan D.H. Conley on Thursday.

The Saints are idle until a trip to face Eastern Wayne on April 10.

Spring Creek 1,

Goldsboro 0

Madison Sullivan's one-timer proved the difference on Thursday as Spring Creek edged Goldsboro, 1-0.

Sullivan was assisted by junior Mirna Santiago.

The Lady Gators now stand 9-2 overall, and 4-2 in East Central 2A matters of significance.

Goldsboro dropped to 6-4 overall, and 2-3 with the loss.

Hobbton 2,

North Duplin 1

NEWTON GROVE -- North Duplin dropped a 2-1 decision to Carolina 1A foe Hobbton on Thursday.

The Lady Rebels now stand 2-7-1 overall this spring, and 2-4 in league play.

WINTERVILLE -- Eastern Wayne posted a 9-0 sweep of ECC 3A foe South Central on Thursday, collecting its third conference triumph of the season.
