WILSON -- Fike prevailed on two of three doubles courts and turned back Eastern Wayne, 5-4, on Tuesday afternoon.
Ranked No. 5 statewide, the Golden Demons upended the Warriors at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots. EW's tandem of Elizabeth Sutton-Samantha Roux claimed an 8-2 decision at the No. 2 flight.
Sutton, Roux and Bella Bowen each earned a singles point. Bowen outlasted Fike's Avery Rose Brown 7-6 (3), 6-0 at the No. 5 slot.
"(A) great match that came down to the wire," EW head coach Craig Hassell said. "(I'm) extremely proud of the effort and intensity of our team today. They have made tremendous improvement in the past two weeks and our team has bonded very well.
"Fike is deep and talented."
Eastern Wayne (2-2 overall) travels to J.H. Rose on Thursday.
