SENIOR LEGION: Post 11 turns back Farmville

FARMVILLE -- Jack Casbarro swatted his first-ever home run on the Senior American Legion baseball scene and Wayne County Post 11 claimed an 11-6 decision over Area I East newcomer Farmville Post 151 on Friday evening.
It was Casbarro's fourth extra-base knock of the season and part of a 2-for-4, one-RBI outing. Casbarro also had a stolen base.
Wayne County has six home runs as a team this season.
Zack Smith (three RBI) turned in a 3-for-5 performance, while Ethan Chapin (two RBI) and Lee Daniels (RBI) contributed two hits apiece. Chapin stole two bases.
As a team, Post 11 is 32 of 39 on stolen-base attempts this season.
Derek Neal and Matt Daughtry each had one hit.
Lance Wise started on the bump and yielded five runs (none earned) on five hits during a three-inning stretch. Josh Jernigan emerged as the winning pitcher with six innings of five-hit, six-strikeout relief. Jernigan became the sixth different WC hurler to pick up a win on the mound this season.
Post 11 overcame four errors.
Wayne County (10-6 overall, 7-2 Area I East) continues play today with a doubleheader at West Craven. Each game is slated for seven innings.
First pitch is 5 p.m.
The West Craven twinbill begins a stretch of five games within a four-day period for Wayne County. Post 11 entertains Wilmington on Monday, Farmville on Tuesday, travels to Kinston on Wednesday and entertains defending Area Ichamp Wilson on Thursday.
Each game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
