The final score doesn't reflect the intensity between county rivals Charles B. Aycock and Rosewood on Friday evening.
The Golden Falcons played a gritty floor game rather than around the rim and handed the Eagles a 47-34 loss.
CBA senior Cameron Kornegay pushed his team to a 10-6 lead in the second quarter. The senior scored on offensive putbacks and helped the Golden Falcons grab a 19-15 halftime advantage.
Rosewood's Chance Howard stole the ball at midcourt and drove to the basket for a layup. Zack Barnes assisted Ethan Chapin with a 3-pointer, but the Eagles trailed the Golden Falcons by nine points after three quarters.
Players dove on the floor for loose balls. Officials called fouls and players stepped to the free throw line. Chapin's two free throws and Noah Grantham's 3-pointer pulled Rosewood to within 10 points of the Golden Falcons.
Senior Tyrique Ford scrambled on the floor for a rebound, drew a foul and made both shots. Kornegay made a foul shot.
Kornegay recorded 19 points and Best had nine points. Ford and fellow senior Keyshawn Cobb each scored seven points.
Chapin ended the game with 11 points. Grantham and Barnes scored eight points apiece.
