PIKEVILLE -- Is a picture worth a thousand words?
Well, for Coach Steve Brooks, it is worth much more -- redemption.
Brooks, the third-year football coach of the Charles B. Aycock Golden Falcons (1-1), took a picture of the 57-0 scoreboard last Friday night after his team's loss to Greene Central. He showed the picture to his team on Monday.
"Don't ever forget what it feels like to get beat," he told his team.
It will be hard for the Golden Falcons to forget. They overthrew passes and were unable to stop Greene Central's solid defense.
However, the Golden Falcons face the North Lenoir Hawks tonight.
North Lenoir lost to Eastern Wayne during its season opener and lost to Farmville Central in its second game. They come into tonight's game seeking their first win of the season.
"They've got athletes. Coach (Kimbo Brown) has a proven track record," Brooks said. "Their offense is built to keep pounding. Eventually, they are going to win some ball games. Hopefully, not this week."
To avoid a second straight loss, Brooks has prepared for tonight's game since taking the disappointing photo.
"We practiced Monday and looked at film," he said. "We went to the drawing board to find guys that want to play. There are a couple of guys that lack effort, and we lost because we put in no effort."
Not only does Brooks desire effort from his team, he also desires to see community support at home games.
"It is a holiday weekend. I like playing at home. The community comes out to home games," said Brooks who wants to see the stands full of Golden Falcons' fans.
Aycock won last year's meeting 42-29 and have won all 10 games in the series since 2005.
