Pierce-Davis Memorial: Eagles, Bulldogs, Cougars compete

BETHEL -- Rayquon Jones and Kaleb Taylor each claimed an individual championship and Rosewood finished runner-up during the team portion of the 23rd annual Pierce-Davis Memorial contested at North Pitt High School.
Jones pinned all three opponents at 220 pounds, while Taylor took the same path at heavyweight. The duo spent just over nine minutes on the mat in actual competition time.
The Eagles had eight top-four placers overall.
David Dotson (120 pounds), Evan Reiss (152), Kaleb Smith (170), Josh Drew (182) and Garner Beasley (195) recorded runner-up efforts in their respective weight classes. Teammate Jayden Thomas claimed fourth at 126 pounds.
Athens Drive edged Rosewood by nine points for the team crown.
Princeton's Michael Daughtry seized runner-up honors at 132 pounds. Teammates Luke Brush (106), Martin Bayles (138) and Cody Parrish (170) each won two individual bouts.
The Bulldogs ended up 15th in the 20-team field.
Goldsboro took three competitors -- D'Qurious Bradford (132), Tyrek Langston (138) and Alexis Chavez (145). Bradford and Langston each won one match on the day.
