Wrestling

Aycock goes 1-1

* DUDLEY -- Freshman 106-pounder Austin Doyle returned to the lineup and notched two victories as Charles B. Aycock battled in a three-team dual meet contested at Southern Wayne on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Falcons (8-3 overall) handed the Saints a 60-18 loss, but dropped a 44-27 decision to Corinth-Holders.

"We had a better showing this time against Southern Wayne," second-year CBA head coach Ronnie Allen said. "I explained to the team that we wrestle better when people start making weight. Still, we had to bump a few people up to wrestle in a higher weight class."

It ended well for Aycock.

Of the 13 contested individual matches, the Golden Falcons prevailed in 11. In addition to Doyle, Zach Howard, Zach Creel, Josh Wallace, Trent Marquard, Jaret Paynter, Chris Barbour, Matt Teachey, William Johnson, Hayden Gurley and Jacob Dickenson each emerged victorious.

O'Khanye Wallace and Kimari Johnson prevailed for the Saints.

Corinth-Holders triumphed in eight of 11 contested matches against Aycock. The Golden Falcons got wins from Wallace, Marquard, Doyle, Johnson and Howard. Johnson and Howard each drew a forfeit.

"Corinth-Holders did not go as well as we wanted and those weight classes were had to bump hurt us," Allen said. "(It's) still early in the season and we have wrestled well, but we still have a few wrestlers that need to dedicate themselves a little more."
