Rebels beat Leopards in extra-inning softball affair

Cory Anderson's lead-off double sparked a five-run, eighth-inning outburst as North Duplin handed Lakewood an 8-3 defeat in Carolina 1-A Conference play Tuesday evening.
Mikayla Koch batted 2-for-5 with an RBI. Rylee Pate contributed two hits, including a triple, and emerged the winning pitcher in relief of starter Shaily McCarty. Pate recorded seven strikeouts in three-plus innings.
McCarty slugged a two-run home run.
North Duplin (5-4 overall) improved to 5-2 in conference play.
