DUDLEY -- Wayne County Post 11 and Pitt County Post 39 played three complete innings before Mother Nature washed out Game 3 in the Area I East championship series Monday evening.
The teams will start from scratch today at 5 p.m. on a soggy Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex diamond. A second game, if necessary, will immediately follow.
Pitt County holds a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-five series that will determine one of two state-tournament qualifiers from Area I.
Apex and Raleigh were also rained out and will resume their Area I West championship series today with Apex ahead 2-0.
Wayne County (17-9 overall) is the reigning Area I champion and finished state runner-up a year ago.
