Girls' tennis

Eastern Wayne 9, Currituck 0

* CURRITUCK -- Eastern Wayne won in convincing fashion with a 9-0 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Currituck in the first round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A dual-team playoffs.

Grace Delbridge, Savannah Sutton, Jackie Johnson, Kristina Childre, Blake Govan and McKenna Dove all recorded a singles point for the Warriors.

The doubles teams of Sutton-Johnson, Delbridge-Govan and Childre-Leslie were all victorious.

Eastern Wayne (14-4 overall) entertains Rocky Mount in the second round at Herman Park.

Greenfield 6, Wayne Christian 3

* WILSON -- Wayne Christian concluded its regular season with a 6-3 loss on Tuesday afternoon at Greenfield.

Taylor Willman and Elizabeth Sutton both earned a singles victory for the Eagles. The team of Willman-Sutton also prevailed at No. 1 doubles.

Wayne Country Day 9, Oakwood 0

* GREENVILLE -- Wayne Country Day cruised past Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference foe Oakwood 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

Gianna Democko, Sarah Best, Mack Thompson, Katherine Roethling, Mollie McDonald and Meredith Roethling each supplied a singles point. The doubles teams of Best-Thompson, Democko-Katherine Roethling and McDonald-Meredith Roethling also won.

The Chargers (10-2 overall, 5-1 CPIC) begin conference tournament play Friday at Wayne Community College.

Wayne Country Day 1

* NEW BERN -- Wayne Country Day endured a 25-21, 22-25, 27-25, 25-16 loss at Epiphany on Tuesday evening.

Sarah Crooks provided seven kills, six digs, four aces and two assists for the Chargers. Rachel Uzzell handed out 10 assists to go with four aces. Jessica Zhou added six digs and six assists. Brooke Neal had six kills, five digs and two aces.

JV sports

* Volleyball: Wayne Country Day d. Epiphany 25-20, 25-15 -- Logan Harrell served six aces for the Chargers. Taylor Sledge supplied five aces. Wayne Country Day finished second in the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference with a record of 9-6, including a 7-3 mark in league play. The Chargers begin CPIC tournament play at 2 p.m. on Friday against an opponent to be determined at Greenfield.
