Best is CPIC's top player

WILSON -- Sarah Best earned the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference player-of-the-year award, and Wayne Country Day shared the season-ending, girls' tennis tournament championship with archrival Greenfield School.
Best, Mack Thompson, Mollie Catherine McDonald and Meredith Roethling each claimed CPIC singles crowns. The tandem of Best-Thompson cruised to the CPIC championship at No. 1 doubles.
Best, Thompson and McDonald were named to the all-CPIC team. Roethling received honorable mention accolades and seized the CPIC tournament Most Valuable Player award.
The Chargers (9-4 overall) conclude regular-season play at home Monday against county archrival Wayne Christian. First serve is 4 p.m. at Wayne Community College.
