Trojans will teach fundamentals of game

The United Way of Wayne County is proud to partner with the Mount Olive College Trojans baseball team for the third annual Scarborough Field of Dreams free youth baseball clinic.

The clinic will be held on Saturday, October 16 th with registration beginning at 12:30. This free clinic is for youth ages 5-18 and runs from 1-3 p.m. at Scarborough Field on the Mount Olive College campus.

The first 50 youth registered at the gate will receive a scholarship to the 39 th Annual George Whitfield Baseball Clinic, scheduled for Jan. 15, 2011, at Goldsboro High School.

The free clinic is led by Trojans head coach Carl Lancaster, North Carolina Hall of Fame Coach George Whitfield and the Mount Olive College baseball team. Last year participants were surprised by an appearance from former Mount Olive Trojan Rich Racobaldo of the St. Louis Cardinals.

"We are excited about our continued partnership with Mount Olive College baseball to bring positive and enriching activities for Wayne County youth," said Steve Parr, executive director of the United Way of Wayne County. He continues. "This year marks the third anniversary of a very successful program where kids have an opportunity to learn from the best that North Carolina baseball has to offer."

The clinic is followed by a Home Run Derby at 3 p.m. and the Mount Olive College Alumni game at 5 p.m.

Youth coaches are welcome to sit in on the sessions.
