GREENSBORO -- Guilford College senior Markas Brunson, who starred at Rosewood High School, earned first-team recognition for the 2009 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference football squad.
A second-team All-ODAC pick last season, Brunson emerged the Quakers' top tackler (41 stops) among the team's defensive linemen and shared the team's lead in sacks with four. The 5-11, 240-pounder also logged seven tackles for loss in nine games.
Brunson, a team captain, recorded seven tackles in three different games this season. A four-year starter, he finished his career with 19 sacks -- the second-highest career total in program history. He posted 193 career stops in 38 games and 40 career tackles for loss are second in school history, also.
One of 10 students selected to participate in the Principled Problem Solving Scholars Program, Brunson is a pyschology major and a dean's list student.
Brunson garnered All-ODAC Academic honors last in 2007-08, served on the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and is a three-time member of Guilford's Student-Athlete Honor Roll.
The Quakers concluded the year 4-6 overall and 2-4 against ODAC opposition. Brunson is just one of five seniors graduating, and Guilford is projected to return 15 starters among 43 lettermen for the 2010 season.
