Wayne Christian improved to 5-0 on the season with a dazzling 25-5, 25-9, 25-23 win over Bethel Christian on Monday afternoon.
Hanna Kaler led the Eagles attack with 20 assists, four service aces and four kills. Kaitlyn Kosuda added four kills and two blocks, while libero Haley Greenwood delivered seven aces.
Wayne Christian (5-0 overall) entertains Grace Christian of Raleigh on Thursday.
Eagles falter
Rosewood dropped a hard-fought, non-conference match to Midway in five games on Monday. The Raiders prevailed 17-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-18, 17-15.
Taylor Johnson led the Eagles with eight blocks, five service aces and 11 kills. Alyssa Spell contributed four digs and seven assists. Stephanie Hall contributed eight assists.
Rachael Kornegay supplied four kills for the Eagles, now 0-2 overall.
GHS falls to Hawks
Goldsboro never found its offensive footing in a 25-6, 25-8, 25-11 loss to North Lenoir on Monday afternoon.
Anastasja Harris and Natalia Dungee each had multiple blocks for the Cougars.
Goldsboro (0-4 overall) will play host to Hobbton today.
Golf
Reeves top individual
Jasmine Reeves fired a nine-hole score of 41 to claim medalist honors during Eastern Wayne's non-conference golf match with Wilson Hunt on Monday afternoon.
Emily Deal added a 59 for the Warriors.
Eastern Wayne entertains Wilson Hunt, Fike and New Bern on Thursday at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.
Soccer
Hobbton wins Cats battle
Freshman Alan Odom tallied Goldsboro's lone goal in a 13-1, non-conference loss to Hobbton at Cougar Stadium on Monday afternoon.
"We've got such a young team," said Goldsboro coach Tyler Gatlin. "They scored a couple of goals on us and we started to lose focus. We'll get better as we get older because we're so full of freshmen and sophomores (right now)."
Goldsboro (0-2 overall) travels to West Craven on Thursday.
JV sports
* Volleyball: Midway d. Rosewood 15-11, 15-10 -- Scout Anderson led the Eagles with two kills and one service ace. Summer Jones added three digs and one ace. Rosewood fell to 1-1 overall.
* Boys' soccer: Wayne Country Day d. Wayne Christian 6-1 -- Jack Langston tallied two goals for the Chargers. Max Park, Zach Syverson, Adam Cohan and Connor Mahoney added one goal apiece in the win.
* Volleyball: North Lenoir d. Goldsboro 25-0, 25-18 -- Holly Pitter paced the Cougars with a strong floor game.
