Rosewood celebrated senior night with a season-ending, 46-32 triumph over county wrestling rival Eastern Wayne on Thursday evening.
It was the final home match for six Eagles -- Sammy Ennis, Paul Atkinson, Dillion Guss, Ariel Nacca, Andrew Sass and Joshua Holmes. Holmes improved to 42-2 overall this season with a first-period pin, while Sass (18-8) drew a forfeit.
The Eagles (19-9 overall) emerged victorious in six of 11 contested individual matches and collected two forfeits against the Warriors.
"I thought we wrestled very well against a much-improved Eastern Wayne team," said Rosewood coach Bill Edmundson. "You can't just go on overall records. Those guys have wrestled the toughest competition around and they wrestled us very aggressively."
Zach Behrend, Jonathan Pate, Greg Cavenaugh, Jacob Roberts, Jonathan Rudolph and Cameron Lane each delivered an individual win for Rosewood. Pate, Cavenaugh, Roberts and Lane each pinned their respective opponent.
Eastern Wayne (8-20) got individual victories from Tyler Wallace, Josh Hahn, Corbin Harris, Zach Hahn, Mike Pugh and sophomore heavyweight Zach Myers. Wallace, Pugh and Myers each notched a pin.
Rosewood returns to action Feb. 13-14 in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-A eastern regional at Croatan. Eastern Wayne wrestles the same weekend in the 3-A regional at South Central. The top four placers in each weight class advance to the NCHSAA Championships.
