Tarboro halts Rams

TARBORO -- Aaron Harper led a balanced rushing attack with 77 yards, but Greene Central couldn't find the end zone in a 34-0 loss to state-ranked Tarboro on Saturday evening.
The Vikings (8-1 overall) remained unbeaten in three Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference contests this season. Tarboro beat Greene Central for the first time since 2001, ending a six-game losing streak in the series which started in 1997.
The Rams, directed by first-year head coach Ken Grantham, exited 2-6 in all games and winless in three EPC outings in 2008.
Marquis Graham complemented Harper's performance with a 68-yard rushing effort, while Reggie Sanders toted the ball 13 times for 53 yards. Overall, the Rams compiled 179 yards on the ground.
Quarterback Brandon Suit completed 5 passes for 43 yards. T.J. McPhail hauled in two receptions for 16 yards. Graham, Leon Speight and Blake Jones each caught one pass.
Defensively, Malcolm Dawson paced the Rams with eight tackles and two quarterback sacks. Harper provided nine tackles.
Tarboro forced three turnovers and posted its fifth shutout of the season.
