RALEIGH -- Mount Olive runners Rob Roderer and Melissa Moore each recorded a top-50 finish in the annual Raleigh Cross Country Invitational hosted by N.C. State University.

Roderer ran the 5K course in 18 minutes, 6 seconds. He was the 21st fastest runner among non-Division I competitors in the 14-team meet. Teammates Chris Menjares (18:38) and Jon Guice (18:54) ended up 29th and 34th, respectively.

Jacob Amos crossed the finish line in 40th, while Mason Holman took 71st. As a team, the Trojans wound up eighth overall and fourth among the 10 non-Division I schools.

On the women's side, Moore posted a time of 22:06. Former North Duplin standout Rocio Alvarado finished 32nd among non-Division I runners in 25:02. Teammates Nikki Lucas and Caitlyn Pye recorded times of 25:48 and 27:33, respectively.

Due to lack of runners, the Trojans did not place in team competition.

Mount Olive returns to action Sept. 27 at the ECU Invitational.

Volleyball

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Alicia Mote notched 13 kills as Mount Olive College dropped a 25-15, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21 decision to Armstrong Atlantic State in the final match of the 2008 AASU/Chatham Orthopaedics Pirate Volleyball Classic.

Racey Bartley added 10 kills.

The Trojans (4-8 overall) finished tournament play 0-4.

Mount Olive opened play Friday with 24-26, 25-14, 25-14, 23-25, 15-10 loss to Flagler (Fla.) University. Mote recorded 21 kills, while Kailey Preece served a career-high five aces. Bartley tallied 12 kills with no errors and also added five blocks.

Joanie Werling chipped in with 46 assists and Mallory Peavler ignited the defense with 26 digs.

Mount Olive also lost to Florida Tech and Rollins.

The Trojans conclude their 13-match road swing Friday at Conference Carolinas foe Anderson (S.C.) University.
