WINTERVILLE - Game one of the Ken Grantham era didn't quite go as planned as Greene Central was handed a season-opening 22-0 loss on Friday night at South Central.
The Rams (0-1) were held to just 94 yards of offense and Grantham's triple-option offense mustered just 66 rushing yards on 22 carries.
"Offensively we're where we expected to be at this point," Grantham said. "We weren't very consistent but we had some big play opportunities that we need to be able to cash in on. It's going to take some time. We've got some young kids that we need to grow and develop. A lot of them were out there on the field for the first time by themselves having to make plays. But, we'll get there."
Montrell McCotter's 4-yard touchdown pass to Torrell Phillips and Tyrell Carmon's two-point conversion gave the Falcons an early 8-0 lead. Jaquell Cherry later added an 88-yard kickoff return for a score and another two-point conversion from Carmon.
Tremaine Anderson's touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter capped South Central's scoring.
"We probably don't have five kids that have varsity experience," Grantham said. "It's going to take a few games under their belt to be able to come in and do the things we want them to do."
Greene Central hosts Wilson Beddingfield at 7:30 p.m. next Friday.
