K-Tribe dumps Frederick. 4-1

Carlton Smith threw six shutout innings and Kinston upended Frederick 4-1 on the Carolina League baseball scene Thursday evening.
Smith (10-5) permitted four hits and posted two strikeouts for his fifth decision in his last six starts. Vinnie Pestano notched his seventh save of the season.
Roman Pena supplied a first-inning, RBI double. Cirilo Cumberbatch and Niuman Romero delivered second-inning, RBI hits. Beau Mills added two hits and walked twice in two official at-bats.
The K-Tribe improved to 32-20 in second-half play.
