The Wayne County Thunder 10U team returns to action Wednesday against either Lenoir County or Wayne County Lightning. Game time is 8 p.m.

In 12U action, Wayne County lost its opening-round contest against Lenoir County on Sunday, but received a surprise after the game. Lenoir used an ineligible player and had to forfeit the contest, which put Wayne County into today's second-round game against Greene County. First pitch is 8 p.m.

And on the 14U scene, Wayne County faces Lenoir County for the second time with the winner earning a state-tournament berth. Lenoir County must win to force a winner-take-all game on Thursday.

Baseball

WC South falls

Cody Richards allowed just one hit in six innings, but it was not enough as Wayne County South fell to D.H. Conley by a 3-0 final in Junior Legion baseball action on Monday.

Five first-inning errors led to all three Conley runs ending up in the unearned collumn.

On the night, Richards struck out two batters and did not allow a walk.

The right-hander also contributed at the plate for WCS, going 1-3 with a double. Zach Grantham also added a hit in the loss.

Wayne County South (9-3 overall) travels to Washington Thursday.

Goldsboro falls

Wayne County rallied from a three-run deficit to defeat Goldsboro 9-7 in a Babe Ruth 16-18-year-old contest Monday evening.

Cody Kirkham, Donald Lewis, Chris Manning, Robert McCullen and Blake Lane each had one hit for Goldsboro.
