DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne clinched a share of the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference regular-season championship with an 11-2 victory over Wilson Beddingfield on Thursday.

The Saints tied with county rival Charles B. Aycock for first place. It was the school's first-ever conference title in fast-pitch play and first championship overall since 1994.

Southern Wayne (18-4 overall) lost a coin flip with Aycock and will be the No. 2 seed for next week's ECC tournament.

Alyssa Bradshaw along with sisters Meredith and Morgan Davis each had two hits. Four other players had one hit as the Saints totaled 12 for the game.

Lauren Darden struck out seven and walked one, while allowing two earned runs to pick up the win.

ND pounds SC

CALYPSO -- North Duplin pounded out 14 runs on 11 hits and stomped Spring Creek 14-1 in five innings on Thursday.

Heather Hudson, Jenny Foley and Felicia Lynch all delivered two hits and an RBI for the Rebels. Jessica Pridgen, Ashley Cartwright, Kristen Jones and Jodie Williamson all tacked on hits. Elizabeth Lane pitched in a solo home run.

Pridgen allowed just one run (unearned) on one hit with seven strikeouts and no walks over five innings to record the win.

"I was pleased with the girls' play," said North Duplin head coach Heather Best. "We hit the ball well and limited our errors."

Warriors lose battle

PRINCETON -- Lani Fricks threw a complete game four-hitter, but Princeton emerged victorious 1-0 in eight innings on Wednesday evening.

Hannah Wood started the game-winning rally with a single and scored on Ashley Braswell's hit.

Casey Mitchell led the Warrior offense with two hits. Lindsey Frederick, Caitlin Turner and Carrie Adams had one hit each.

Eastern Wayne (7-16 overall) concludes regular-season play at home today against West Carteret.

Tennis

Aycock sweeps titles

SNOW HILL -- Charles B. Aycock sophomore Blake Vail repeated as the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference men's singles champion with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Eastern Wayne's Drew Jackson.

Vail improved to 24-0 this season and 54-1 during his varsity career. He defeated Eastern Wayne's David Benton 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinal round. Jackson advanced with an upset over No. 2 seed Martin Wdowiak.

In doubles, Aycock's tandem of Addison Westbrook-Blake Cooper turned back top-seeded Chris Knobling-Eric Barnes of Eastern Wayne 7-6 (4), 6-2. The Golden Falcons' duo of Ben Evans-Dylan Quinn won the third-place match over Hunt's Duck-Lupton 7-6, 6-4.

Baseball

Gators maul Rebels

CALYPSO -- Spring Creek finished its season off in style with a 16-1, five-inning rout of North Duplin on Thursday.

Timmy Rogers went 3-for-4 and Anthony Brogden, Adam Hinston and Paul Hayes each had two hits. Steven Best added a hit for the Gators (8-15 overall, 4-6 Carolina).

Hunter Chase and Buddy Grady both had a pair of hits for the Rebels (4-12, 2-8). Taylor Coates, Will Lanier and Billy Mello all had hits.

Conquerors advance

Taylor Stocks pitched a complete-game shutout and Faith Christian defeated Berean Christian 10-0 in a N.C. Christian Schools Association Coastal Region 2-A playoff game Thursday.

Stocks struck out seven and surrendered just two hits in seven innings. Offensively, he batted 2-for-3 and scored four runs.

John Kurt-Cozine singled and scored three times. Nick Gurley had a pair of hits with two runs scored.

The Conquerors travel to Fall Road Baptist in Rocky Mount at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Track

EW finished third

WILSON HUNT -- Eastern Wayne's girls track team finished third in an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference meet at Wilson Hunt on Thursday.

Kinston took home first place with a team score of 149 ahead of Hunt's 129 and Eastern Wayne's 124.

First-place finishers for the Warriors were Tiara Campbell (200 meters), Noel Kelly (400 meters) and the 1,600-, 800- and 1,600-meter relay teams.

All of Eastern Wayne's first-place finishers qualified for regional competition along with Esther Sutton, who finished third in the 300 meter hurdles.

JV sports

* Wayne Country Day baseball 9-9, Greenfield 7-2 -- Cameron Ford hit a three-run homer in game on and had a pair of hits in game two. Stoan Stewart pitched in two hits in game one and Cole Davis chipped in two hits in game two and a one hit in game one. Dare Uzzell and Cody Neal also had hits. Hil Tanner picked up the win in game one with Neal earning the save. Davis won game two. The Chargers (3-5 overall) conclude their season at 3 p.m. today at home against Kerr-Vance Academy.

Middle schools

* Norwayne baseball 7, Rosewood 2 -- Colin DuBose and Bryant Stafford each had two hits for Norwayne. Stafford and Cameron Taylor combined to throw a four-hitter. Norwayne (10-2 overall, 4-1 WCMSAC Division I) hosts Eastern Wayne on Monday.

* Eastern Wayne baseball 9, Mt. Olive 5 -- Tyler Brown paced the Eastern Wayne offense with a 2-for-4 performace. Wes Capps, Zack Mozingo and Wes Stewart each contributed two RBI. Benito Avila, Justin Lee and Tyler Ware all added singles. Mozingo got the win on the mound. Eastern Wayne (12-1 overall) can clinch the Division I conference championship outright with a win at Norwayne on Monday.

* Princeton softball 11, Meadow 0 -- Kaitlyn Peedin tallied three hits for Princeton. Megan Gerrell, Reandy Hearn, Hannah Woodard and Amber Hill all tacked on two hits. Nicole Melvin, Keely Myers, Ashleigh Mayes and Summer Sasser all contributed hits. Logan Jones struck out 10 in five innings to record the win.
