MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive College men's golf team is headed back to the NCAA Division II tournament for the third consecutive season.
The Trojans grabbed the No. 6 seed among Atlantic Region teams for the Atlantic/Southeast Super Regional, scheduled for May 5-7 at The Point Lake Golf Club in Belmont.
Senior Mick Moberg becomes the first golfer in school history to compete in the NCAA tournament in all four years at MOC. Moberg and Eric Royster qualified as individuals in the 2005 championship.
Mount Olive finished seventh at the Conference Carolinas Championships earlier this week. Five conference schools will join the Trojans at Belmont along with CIAA members Fayetteville State and Virginia State, six Peach Belt qualifiers and two schools from the South Atlantic Conference.
The Atlantic and Southeast Region champs, along with the teams with the next three lowest scores (regardless of region) qualify for the national finals May 14-17 in Houston, Texas.
The men's golf team becomes the fourth MOC program to earn an NCAA bid this season, tying a school record for most NCAA tournament teams in the same year. The Trojans competed in the men's and women's Division II East Regional and the baseball team has punched its ticket to the Division II South Atlantic Regional.
