Rosewood took advantage of timely hitting in the middle of the lineup and outlasted non-conference opponent Wilson Beddingfield 10-7 on Wednesday.
Matt Neal and Taylor Allen emerged the Eagles' offensive leaders with two hits apiece. Holt Rains, Robert Franks and Steven Bostic also reached base twice.
Will Beasley tossed 41/3 innings for the mound win. Cody Richards pitched two and two thirds innings of sterling relief.
The Eagles improved to 9-9 overall.
Gators ousted
AYDEN -- Spring Creek hurler Kevin Prunest threw a complete-game, three-hitter, but Ayden-Grifton escaped 1-0 in their Carolina 1-A Conference game.
The Gators' lone defensive error led the Chargers' lone run.
Lee Coates led Spring Creek's offense with two hits. Steven Best, Dontay Boseman and Timmy Rogers each contributed one hit.
Spring Creek (7-13, 3-4 Carolina) entertain Rosewood on Friday.
Softball
Aycock rebounds
Ten different Golden Falcons tallied at least one hit as Charles B. Aycock upended 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference rival Eastern Wayne 20-0 on Wednesday evening.
Stevie Savage led the way for the Falcons with a 4-for-5 effort that included two RBI. Leigh Smith and Anna Sullivan each added three hits, while Torie Benton reached base twice and drove in four runs.
Morgan Smith belted two hits for Eastern Wayne. Caitlyn Turner finished 1-for-1 with a triple for the Warriors.
Aycock left-hander Emily Jordan earned the pitching win. Autumn Pittman and Jessica Hare combined in relief to throw the final two innings of the five-inning affair.
Charles B. Aycock (15-4 overall, 6-2 ECC) visits Southern Wayne on Friday. The Warriors (6-15, 1-8) travel to Kinston today.
Tennis
Wayne Christian wins
Taylor Gray and Daniel Glover won decisive victories in singles play as Wayne Christian cruised passed Trinity of Durham 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Woody Sasser, Kenneth Giordano and Chris Easom also added singles points for the Eagles.
The teams of Gray-Rouse, Sasser-Easom, and Giordano-Glover swept all three doubles match-ups.
Wayne Christian (6-0 overall) faces Wayne Country Day School on Friday.
Soccer
Hawks down Falcons
PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock concluded its home schedule with a 1-0, senior night loss to North Lenoir on Wednesday.
Seniors Abby Caplinger, Mallory Peacock, Zara Shaw, Brittany Thompson and Lauren Adcox made their final appearance in front of the Golden Falcon faithful.
Aycock (6-9-2 overall) concludes regular-season play Friday at Southern Wayne.
Eagles net victory
Gabby Corman drove a shot into the back of the net off Ariel Nacca's pass and Rosewood never looked back in a 4-0 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference foe Spring Creek.
Cornman recorded a hat trick (three goals) for the Eagles, who improved to 9-5-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Kelsey Wolfe added an unassisted goal for Rosewood, which attempted 13 corner kicks.
Golf
Lane Tree LGA
Nan Jarrell emerged the game-of-the-week winner during weekly tournament play at Lane Tree Golf Course.
Sherry Minner took low net. Donna Adams and Linda Watson shared low putts.
JV sports
* Greene Central baseball 11, Tarboro 1 -- Deric Grant pitched all five innings to earn the victory on the mound for the Rams. William Bynum led the Rams at the plate with four hits, including a double. Trent Murray and Will Crandle combined for five RBI.
