PRINCETON -- North Duplin scored three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to rally for a 4-2 win at Class 1-A Carolina Conference softball rival Princeton on Tuesday.

The loss was the Bulldogs' first in conference play this season.

Elizabeth Lane went 1-for-3 with a solo home run for the Rebels. Brittany Coley was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Kristen Jones added a hit.

"This was an exceptional game," said North Duplin head coach Heather Best. "Both teams had minimal errors and good defensive plays. Hopefully the girls now have a renewed sense of confidence in their play and in the team."

Hannah Wood and Jessica Smith both finished 2-for-4 for Princeton. Ashley Brashwell, Rebecca Harlan, Brittany Baker, Tylan George and Danielle Mitchell each had singles for the Bulldogs.

Jessica Pridgen pitched a complete game for the Rebels, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. April Keene took the loss for Princeton.

North Duplin (6-6, 2-4 CC) hosts Ayden-Grifton on Thursday and the Bulldogs (8-5, 5-1) entertain North Johnston on Friday.

Baseball

WCDS routs Oakwood

Wayne Country Day breezed past Oakwood 10-1 on Tuesday.

Cameron Ford (two RBI) and Ryan Ford (RBI) each had two hits for the Chargers. Kevin Herring tacked on a hit and an RBI. Herring pitched a complete game allowing one run on two hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks.

Wayne Country Day (5-9 overall, 3-2 CPIC) travels to Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Friday.

Eagles fall at NJ

KENLY -- Rosewood surrendered a pair of costly unearned runs and fell 4-2 at Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Johnston on Tuesday.

Taylor Allen allowed just four hits in six innings of work for the Eagles with five strikeouts and two walks. However, a pair of errors hurt Rosewood as Allen gave up four runs (two earned).

Zach Grantham and Cody Richards were both 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles. Holt Rains and Eric Martel both pitched in hits.

Rosewood (8-9 overall, 3-4 Carolina) plays host to Wilson Beddingfield in a non-conference contest at 6 p.m. today.

Rebels tame Bulldogs

PRINCETON -- Doug Lloyd pitched seven solid innings, and Trea Beavers and Will Lanier each tallied two hits as North Duplin picked up a 3-1 win at Princeton on Tuesday.

Chase Deaver added a hit for the Rebels. Brian Chase contributed an RBI.

Lloyd scattered seven hits while surrendering just one run with seven strikeouts and four walks in a complete game effort.

Michael Radford and Ryan Daughtry both had a hit for the Bulldogs.

North Duplin (4-9 overall, 2-4 Carolina) entertains Ayden-Grifton on Thursday. Princeton welcomes league-leading North Johnston on Friday.

Soccer

Chargers mow Greenfield

WILSON -- Wayne Country Day needed just 16 shots to score four goals in a 4-1 win at Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference opponent Greenfield on Tuesday.

Azlynn Aycock scored on a penalty kick just four minutes in giving Greenfield a 1-0 lead. The Chargers struck eight minutes later when Kim Martell drove a wide, long shot to the far post past the Greenfield keeper.

Wayne Country Day took a 2-1 lead in the 26th minutes as Sterling Coggins stuck home a crossing pass from Mack Thompson.

Thompson pushed the margin to 3-1 in the 36th minute on a through ball from Catherine Ford. Ford found Thompson again just three minutes later to cap the Chargers' scoring.

Chargers' keeper Ellen Elmore had five saves.

"This was a great win for our team," Wayne Country Day head coach Baron Heinemann said. "Their teamwork and communication were top notch. Overall, I'm proud of the girls for stringing together some of the prettiest soccer I've seen yet."

The Chargers (10-2-2, 6-0-1 CPIC) host Faith Christian of Rocky Mount on Tuesday.

Walnut Creek LGA

Novella Zambelli claimed low gross during weekly tournament play on the Walnut Creek Country Club links.

Linda Cannon and Faye Franklin seized low net and low putts, respectively.

JV sports

* Trinity of Durham baseball 8, Wayne Christian 1 -- Chandler Harrell and Gregory Johnson paced the Eagles' offense. Jackson Hayes allowed one run in four innings for Wayne Christian. The Eagles (3-7) host Bethel Christian on Friday.

* Eastern Wayne boys tennis 9, Greenfield 0 -- Sanjeev Srikantha won a thrilling tie-breaker 9-7 in singles play for the Warriors. Timothy Parker, Michael Ames, Joe Dicesare, Scott Cronin and Seth Taylor all picked up singles points. The teams of Parker-Carpenter, Dicesare-Ames and Cronin-Childers won in doubles action. Eastern Wayne improved to 8-2 overall.

Middle schools

* Eastern Wayne baseball 8, Spring Creek 7 -- Tyler Ware (double) and Aaron Debusk each batted 3-for-4 for the Warriors. Benito Avila added three hits, including a triple, while Justin Lee went 3-for-3 at the plate. Zack Mozingo and Tyler Brown combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound. Eastern Wayne improved to 10-1 overall.
