Southern Wayne plated eight runs in the final three innings and claimed a come-from-behind, 8-4 non-conference victory over perennial independent schools power Wayne Christian on Monday afternoon.

Traci Davis provided a fourth-inning RBI to put the Eagles in front.

The Saints (16-2 overall) stormed back in the fifth with a four-run outburst. Catcher Lindsey Pearsall delivered the big hit -- a bases-loaded, three-RBI double into right-center field.

Wayne Christian (9-2) answered.

Courtney Barrow reached on an error and Meredith Burroughs crushed a two-run homer. Two outs later, Reagan Hinton trotted home on a game-tying sacrifice fly.

Southern Wayne responded with runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Pearsall supplied her third hit of the game in the sixth inning, which scored Tara Hirsch and shortstop Alyssa Bradshaw. In the seventh, the Saints manufactured runs on a walk, error and sacrifice fly.

The Eagles entertain Northwood Temple on Thursday, while the Saints are the guests of Wilson Hunt today.

Hawks hold on

KINSTON -- North Lenoir pitchers Kayla Letchworth and Erin Deal combined for 11 strikeouts in a 5-4, non-conference victory over county foe Kinston.

Nicole Howard and Jessica Kennedy each belted one hit, and drove in a run for the Hawks.

North Lenoir (12-4 overall) visits Tarboro today.

Baseball

Bulldogs victorious

CLAYTON -- Kameron Harrison scattered four hits and posted five strikeouts in four-plus innings during Princeton's 6-2, non-conference conquest of Clayton.

Ryan Daughtry paced the Bulldog offense with two hits and an RBI in three at-bats. Chris Hinton added a hit and an RBI.

Princeton (10-9 overall) entertains North Duplin today.

Soccer

North Lenoir cruises

Gabby Hill found the back of the net twice as North Lenoir cruised to a 5-1 victory over Tarboro in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference soccer action Monday.

Jordan Hudson, Dani Jarman and Lindsay Walton added one goal apiece.

The Hawks (11-3 overall) entertain C.B. Aycock on Wednesday.

Golf

WCCC Tournament

Bill Brewer and Lionel Sutton emerged the first flight champions in the annual spring Member-Member golf tournament contested at Walnut Creek Country Club.

Brewer and Sutton are the reigning Wayne County Men's Amateur Senior and Open Division champions, respectively.

Rick Perrine and Ted Ivey claimed second flight. Bill Warren and Ken Tetterton won third flight, while Mike Saber and Mike Wilson emerged the fourth flight winners. Jeff Wharton and Russ Prys took fifth flight.

Three Eagles event

Brian Murgas captured first in championship flight play during the TEGA Tax Blues Tournament contested on the Three Eagles Golf Course at Seymour Johnson AFB.

Les Zopfli was second, followed by Kevin Harrington.

Top open flight finishers were Ian Buschmann (first), Matt Baker (second), Jeff Baker (third) and Chuck Lively (fourth). David Callis won the senior championship, followed by Jay Davis and Charlie Waters.

Dustin Darnell grabbed the senior open flight with Dan Kester finishing second. Chuck Oakley and J. Ray Edmundson were third and fourth, respectively.

Emma Penner and Myong Thompson ended up first and second, respectively, in ladies flight action.

Closest-to-the-pin winners were Jack Parker, Darnell, Joe Lawrence and Chuck Oakley.

The event was sponsored by the Three Eagles Golf Association.

Tennis

Falcons falter

PIKEVILLE -- No. 1-ranked Southern Nash remained unbeaten in 20 outings this season with a 6-3, non-conference victory over Charles B. Aycock on Monday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons' Blake Vail and Blake Cooper each improved to 17-0 with victories in singles play. Vail-Cooper also claimed the lone singles point against the Firebirds.

Weather permitting, C.B. Aycock (15-2 overall) visits county archrival Eastern Wayne today. First serve is 4 p.m. on the Wayne Community College courts.

Middle schools

* Eastern Wayne softball 11, Spring Creek 10 -- Stephanie Smith earned the win on the mound for the Warriors. Haley Ginn and Jasmine Benjamin each reached base twice for the Warriors. Eastern Wayne will host Brogden on Monday.
