SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek held on to pick up a 9-8 win over Carolina 1-A Conference rival North Duplin on Tuesday.

Steven Best went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBI for the Gators. Dontay Boseman, Kevin Prunest, Alex Casey and Anthony Brogden each added two hits.

Buddy Grady and Chase Deaver were both 2-for-4 for the Rebels.

Prunest earned the win and Brogden recorded the save. Doug Lloyd took the loss for North Duplin.

Spring Creek (6-12, 2-3 Carolina) hosts Rosewood on Friday while the Rebels (1-4 Carolina) travel to North Johnston.

Waccamaw edges WCA

Second-ranked Waccamaw rallied for three runs in the seventh inning thanks to a home run and two Wayne Christian errors to hand the Eagles a 3-2 non-conference loss on Tuesday.

Dominic Arthur's homer in the bottom of the fifth gave Wayne Christian a 2-0 lead.

Adam Brannan took the loss on the mound allowing three hits, with eight strikeouts and one walk.

The Eagles (5-2 overall) host Crossroads on Thursday.

Aycock sinks Vikings

KINSTON -- After falling at Princeton on Monday Charles B. Aycock rebounded with a 12-2 thumping of Kinston in five innings on Tuesday.

Zach Wright (three RBI) and Jordan Carr (RBI) both accounted for three hits. Jonathan Taylor added two hits and three RBI and Stephen Strouse (RBI) and Will Edgerton both had two hits.

Jesse Randolph (7-1) allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks over four innings to earn the win. Jimmy Kearney pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

The Golden Falcons (15-4, 6-1 ECC) host Wilson Hunt on Friday. Aycock defeat the Warriors in Wilson earlier this season.

Goldsboro falls

Marquise Dance supplied Goldsboro's lone RBI hit in a 16-1 loss to Eastern Plains 2-A Conference rival North Pitt on Tuesday.

Donald Lewis, Josh McCoy, Alex Aldridge and Darrell Williams also had hits for the Cougars.

Goldsboro (0-11 overall, 0-5 EPC) entertains Tarboro on Friday.

Hawks buck Rams

SNOW HILL -- John Alphin tossed a complete game shutout as North Lenoir topped Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe Greene Central 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday.

Stephen Pridgen went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Alphin was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI and Mike Wetherington and Carter Capps both chipped in two hits and an RBI.

Alphin surrendered just three hits to go with four strikeouts and one walk in five innings.

The Hawks (12-1, 5-0 EPC) entertain Farmville Central on Friday.

Chargers stumble

HENDERSON -- Wayne Country Day was held to just four hits in a 13-3 loss at Kerr-Vance Academy in five innings on Tuesday.

Ryan Ford and Kevin Herring both had two hits apiece for the Chargers. Hil Tanner and Corey Roberts both had an RBI.

Wayne Country Day (3-9, 1-2 CPIC) hosts Greenfield at 4 p.m. on Friday.

SW cruises

WILSON -- Michael Douglas and Cameron Wiggins combined on a complete-game, one-hit shutout in Southern Wayne's 8-0 win at Wilson Beddingfield on Tuesday.

Douglas got the win pitching 6 1/3 scoreless innings allowing just one hit with five strikeouts and two walks. Wiggins pitched 2/3 of an inning of perfect relief.

Scott Holloman had three doubles and two RBI and Tyler Edwards added three hits. Robert Herring, Douglas and Ricky Oddon all had RBIs for the Saints.

Southern Wayne entertains Kinston on Thursday.

Softball

NL topples GC

SNOW HILL -- North Lenoir remained unbeaten in Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play with a 9-3 win at Greene Central on Tuesday.

Nicole Howard (three RBI) and Courtney Hill paced the Hawks offense with two hits each.

Erin Dill picked up the win on the mound in relief.

North Lenoir (11-4, 5-0 EPC) travels to Farmville Central on Friday.

Saints pound Bruins

WILSON -- Southern Wayne pounded out 12 hits and defeated Wilson Beddingfield 10-1 in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play on Tuesday.

Brianna Lofton had four hits and an RBI to lead the Saints. Alyssa Bradshaw pitched in two hits and five RBI and Tara Hursch contributed two hits and two RBI.

Lauren Darden pitched a complete game allowing one runs on three hits with nine strikeouts.

Southern Wayne (12-2 overall) plays host to South Lenoir in a non-conference game today.

Rebels bag Gators

SEVEN SPRINGS -- North Duplin used an eight-run, sixth inning to hammer Spring Creek 15-3 in Carolina 1-A Conference play on Tuesday.

Brittany Coley, Jodie Williamson, Elizabeth Lane and Kristen Jones each had two hits for the Rebels. Heather Hudson, Jessica Pridgen and Ashley Cartwright all added hits.

Pridgen got the win allowing two runs (both unearned) on two hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over 4 2/3 innings of work.

North Duplin (5-5 overall) visits North Johnston on Friday, while Spring Creek entertains Rosewood.

Eagles win big

Cynthia Burroughs tossed another no-hitter and Wayne Christian needed just five innings to defeat visiting Crossroads Christian 15-0 on Tuesday.

Burroughs struck out 11 and walked just one.

Traci Davis had a pair of doubles, Burroughs added a double and Sarah McCollum contributed a triple.

The Eagles (8-1, 3-1 CC) host Parrott Academy on Thursday.

Cougars stumble

Goldsboro fell 25-0 to North Pitt on Tuesday.

Mo Hall, Aunia King and Janneka Williams each had hits for the Cougars.

Goldsboro (0-8 overall) entertains Jones Senior in a non-conference game today.

Hunt drops EW

WILSON -- Eastern Wayne fell 9-2 at Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference rival Wilson Hunt on Tuesday.

Caitlin Turner went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Warriors and Morgan Smith, Casey Mitchell and Carrie Adams each added hits.

Lani Fricks took the loss on the mound.

Eastern Wayne (4-13 overall, 0-7 ECC) visits Spring Creek on Thursday for a non-conference game.

Soccer

WCDS prevails

AHOSKIE -- After falling behind 1-0 early, Wayne Country Day rallied to defeat Ridgecroft 3-1 on Tuesday.

Kim Martell's goal in the 24th minute tied the game at 1-1 and Catherine Ford's blast in the 31st minute gave the Chargers a 2-1 halftime lead.

Brooke Norris added the final goal of the evening with 18 minutes to play. Wayne Country Day's victory didn't come without a price as Virginia Best went down with a knee injury shortly before Norris' goal. The extent of the injury was not known.

The Chargers (8-1-2 overall, 4-0-1 CPIC) host Village Christian on Thursday.

Golf

CBA finishes 2nd

Charles B. Aycock recorded its best team score of the year in a second place finish in a match with North Lenoir and Greene Central on Tuesday at Lane Tree Golf Club.

The Hawks finished first with a score of 313 ahead of the Golden Falcon's 321 and the Rams 397.

Austin Forrest was the medalist for Aycock with a round of 74. Hayward Jeffries shot 79, C.P. Cranford had an 81 and Chase Parnell finished at 87.

The Golden Falcons return to Lane Tree on Monday for an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference match.

Hunt takes meet

KINSTON -- Wilson Hunt fired a team total of 317 to win the 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference golf match at Falling Creek Golf Club on Monday. The Warriors bested Eastern Wayne by two strokes.

Nick Barrow shot the low round of the afternoon, carding a 74 to earn medalist honors. Hunt's Paul Howell finished second individually with a 76.

Eastern Wayne continues to lead the conference overall standings with a three match total of 979. Hunt sits in second with 991, and Charles B. Aycock (1,030) holds third.

The next ECC meet will take place at Lane Tree Country Club next Monday.

Walnut Creek LGA

Novella Zambelli claimed play-of-the-day honors during weekly tournament play at Walnut Creek Country Club.

Jewel Ivey and Mary Morris each won low gross in flight competition. Mary Ann Sutton and Nancy Satterfield each captured low net. Faye Franklin and Evelyn Rose tied for low putts.

Tennis

Gators bite Eagles

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Spring Creek turned back Carolina 1-A Conference rival Rosewood 7-1 on Tuesday and earned its first win of the season.

Singles winners for the Gators were Alex Dunmire, Matt Richter, Colby Strickland, Douglas Boltinhouse and Drew Pierce. The doubles tandems of Strickland-Pierce and David Galloway-Kent Jernigan were victorious for Spring Creek.

Trevor Morris earned the lone singles win for Rosewood.

The Gators (1-2 overall) host East Duplin in a non-conference match today.

CBA wins two

KINSTON -- Charles B. Aycock swept a doubleheader from Kinston 6-0 and 5-0 on Tuesday.

Singles winners for the Golden Falcons in match one were Blake Vail, Addison Westbrook, Blake Cooper, Ben Evans, Ben Nichols and Dylan Quinn.

Cooper and Evans earned singles victories in match two for Aycock. The doubles teams of Vail-Cooper, Westbrook-Nichols and Evans-Quinn for victorious in match two.

GC nets Tarboro

TARBORO -- Greene Central earned an 8-1 win at Eastern Plains 2-A Conference foe Tarboro on Tuesday.

Eric Simmons, James Kersey, Trey Cash, Colby Chase and Jason Perry each recorded singles victories for the Rams.

Simmons-Cash, Kersey-Perry and Chase-Harrison all earned doubles wins.

JV sports

* Greene Central baseball 4, North Lenoir 1 -- C.J. Faulkner (RBI) and Josh Taylor both contributed two hits for the Rams. Deric Grant earned the win on the mound. Greene Central (10-5 overall, 3-1 EPC) visits North Pitt on Friday.

* Wayne Country baseball 13, Kerr-Vance Academy 8 -- Hil Tanner had two hits and Cole Davis and Stoan Stewart each picked up a hit each for the Chargers. Cody Neal and Dare Uzzell combined to give up seven hits.

* Wayne Christian tennis 9, Greene Central 0 -- Taylor Gray, Matthew Rouse, Woody Sasser, Christopher Easom, Daniel Glover and Kenneth Giordano all earned singles wins for the Eagles. The same players were victorious in doubles play.

Middle schools

* Eastern Wayne baseball 5, Rosewood 3 -- Tyler Brown pitched five strong innings for the Warriors. Wesley Capps belted an RBI double in the win. Taylor McGill recorded a triple for Rosewood in the loss.

* Princeton softball 11, Meadow 2 -- Hannah Woodard went 4-for-5 with a home run for Princeton and Ashleigh Mayes was 3-for-4. Katlyn Peedin and Reandy Hearn each added two hits. Logan Jones recorded the win with 12 strikeouts.
