Frederick tallied six runs during a three-inning stretch and handed Kinston a 9-8 loss on the historic Grainger Stadium diamond Wednesday evening.
K-Tribe catcher Brian Juhl mashed a three-run homer in the seventh to close the gap to one run. But the Keys held Kinston scoreless the final two innings and grabbed a 2-0 lead in the series, which continues today.
Juhl finished with two hits, while Carlos Rivero added three.
Josh Tomlin took the mound loss.
