KENLY -- Leigh Smith pounded out three hits as Charles B. Aycock defeated North Johnston 4-0 for its 10th win of the season.

Stevie Savage, Torie Benton and Amber Baker each contributed hits to the Falcon cause.

North Johnston was led offensively by Casey Creech and Mindy Narron, who each tallied two hits.

Autumn Pittman threw three scoreless innings to earn the victory in the circle for the Falcons.

The Golden Falcons (10-2 overall) entertain Wilson Beddingfield on Friday.

Rams cruise

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central exploded for three runs in the first inning and five more in the second, beating North Pitt 13-3 in a mercy-rule shortened game.

Stacy Wade led the Rams' offense with a perfect 3-for-3 night at the dish. Shanna Parker, Jessica Moore and Chelsea Tyndall all contributed multiple-hit performances.

Liz Webb scattered five hits over five innings to earn the victory on the rubber for Greene Central.

The Rams (7-5 overall) play host to Eastern Wayne today.

Warriors bested

Lani Fricks hurled a complete game, struck out seven and only allowed two earned runs as Eastern Wayne dropped a 7-5 decision to Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference member Kinston.

Caitlin Turner and Morgan Smith each reached base twice for the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne travels to Greene Central today for a non-conference showdown.

Baseball

Eagles win

AYDEN -- Matt Neal delivered a bases-clearing triple in the top of the sixth inning to fianlize Rosewood's 6-1 victory over Carolina 1-A Conference foe Ayden Grifton on Wednesday.

Holt Rains was the only Rosewood player to reach base more than once. The senior right fielder went 2-4 at the plate.

Taylor Allen continued his hot streak on the mound for the Eagles. Allen pitched a complete game to earn the victory, striking out 10 Charger batters.

Rosewood entertains North Johnston today at 7 p.m.

Rams shut out

SNOW HILL -- Greene Central never figured out North Pitt hurler Cam Rollins and managed just one hit in a 5-0 loss Wednesday.

It was the Eastern Plains 2-A opener for both teams.

Mike Speedy was the hard-luck loser on the afternoon. The Ram starter allowed three unearned runs during a three-inning stint.

Greene Central welcomes Goldsboro on Friday.

Bulldogs top Gators

PRINCETON -- The two teams who did not meet in the annual Deacon Jones Invitational took to the field for a Carolina 1-A Conference clash on Wednesday evening.

The Bulldogs prevailed 9-4.

The Gators managed only two hits in the game, singles from Tim Rogers and Dontay Boseman.

Spring Creek (4-9 overall) plays host to Ayden-Grifton on Friday.

Chargers defeated

Erratic pitching again plagued the Chargers from Wayne Country Day as they dropped a 10-6, non-conference decision to Ahoskie Ridgecroft.

Wayne Country Day got a solo home run from Cameron Ford and two hits each from Cam Strickland and Kevin Herring, but it was not enough to overcome a good Ridgecroft offense.

"As a pitching staff we must do a better job of throwing strikes and getting ahead in the count," Charger caoch Michael Taylor explained.

Wayne Country Day (1-6 overall) will travel to The Oakwood School in Greenville, Friday.

Tennis

GC routs North Lenoir

SNOW HILL -- Eric Simmons and James Kersey each kept their opponents from winning a point as Greene Central defeated North Lenoir 9-0.

The Rams also picked up singles victories from Trey Cash, Colby Chase, Andrew Harrison and Jason Perry.

"James played flawlessly in his singles match today," Greene Central coach Brad Sauls said. "He played a very consistant player today and refused to give up any games."

In doubles action the teams of Simmons-Cash, Kersey-Perry and Chase-Harrison each recorded victories for the Rams.

Greene Central (6-3 overall) visits North Pitt today.

JV sports

* Greene Central baseball 18, North Pitt 1 -- Deric Grant pitched a complete game and allowed one earned run in the five-inning affair. William Bynum led the Ram attack with three hits, including a double. Wes Sowers also reached base three times. Greene Central improved to 6-4 overall.

* Bethel baseball 14, Wayne Christian 4 -- Greg Johnson, Chandler Harrell, Caleb Nelson, Josh Burdett and Ryan Cook each recorded a hit during the Eagles' loss. Harrell recorded five strikeouts on the mound for the Eagles. Wayne Christian (1-2 overall) travels to Greenville Christian today.

* C.B. Aycock baseball 2, Southern Wayne 1 -- Jordan Quinn pitched a complete game and struck out nine for the Golden Falcons. Travis Musselman ripped a double, the only extra-base hit of the afternoon for the Falcons. Will Broadwell drove in Southern Wayne's only run and pitched a complete game two-hitter in the loss.

Middle schools

* Eastern Wayne baseball 9, Rosewood 8 -- Jeremy Lancaster and Justin Lee each had two hits in the Warriors' win. Zack Mozingo pitched five innings in the win, while Tyler Brown tossed the final two innings to pick up the save. Ian Speight, Nathan Huyser and T.J. Frost had two hits apiece for Rosewood. Eastern Wayne improved to 5-1 overall.
