NEWTON GROVE -- Jessica Pridgen collected four hits and two RBI as North Duplin hammered Hobbton 20-8 in non-conference action.

Brittney Coley added three hits and four RBI for the Rebels, who beat a Class 1-A Super Six opponent for the second time in a 72-hour period. Heather Hudson, Kristen Jones (three RBI) and Ashley Cartwright (RBI) contributed two hits apiece.

Jenny Coley and Jodie Williamson (RBI) each added one hit.

Hobbton touched starting right-hander Felicia Lynch (1-0) for eight runs (four earned) on seven hits in four innings. Pridgen tossed three innings of four-strikeout scoreless relief.

"They hit the ball really well and cleaned up their defensive game," said North Duplin coach Heather Best, whose team scored 10 first-inning runs against the Wildcats.

"Both Felicia and Jessica did a good job on the mound with the rest of the team backing them up defensively."

North Duplin improved to 4-2 overall.

Baseball

Saints drop two

SHALLOTTE -- Southern Wayne dropped its second game in as many days in an Eastern Tournament at West Brunswick High School.

After falling to North Davidson on Friday, Southern Wayne dropped a 4-0 decision to East Duplin on Saturday.

East Duplin pushed a run across in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie. The Panthers added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Southern Wayne and East Duplin both tallied five hits apiece but it was the Saints that failed to put a run on the scoreboard.

Tyler Edwards and Jordan Williams each had to hits for Southern Wayne and Ricky Oddon added a double. Cameron Wiggins took the loss on the mound.

The Saints (7-4, 3-1 ECC) return to tournament action at 10 a.m. on Monday against an opponent yet to be determined.

Tennis

Rams dealt EPC loss

SNOW HILL -- Defending Eastern Plains 2-A Conference men's champion Greene Central earned two doubles points, but archrival Tarboro escaped with a 5-4 victory.

The Rams' tandems of Eric Simmons-Trey Cash and Colby Chase-Andrew Harrison were each victorious. Simmons-Cash pulled out a 9-7 decision at the No. 1 slot.

In singles, Cash and Harrison each claimed a straight-set win. Cash won a second-set tiebreaker, while Harrison took both sets in tiebreaking fashion.

JV sports

* Eastern Wayne baseball 1, C.B. Aycock 0 (9 inn.) -- Robert Faucette delivered the game-winning hit for the Warriors. Zach Beachem posted eight strikeouts in a complete-game effort. Michael Hess and Adron Hollowell each contributed two hits. Anderson Barnes and Jeff Carmel led the Golden Falcons with two hits apiece. Eastern Wayne (6-2 overall) remained unbeaten in three Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference contests.

* Eastern Wayne boys tennis 6, Greene Central 3 -- Timothy Parker, Joe Dicesarce and Kevin Carpenter each claimed a pro-set (eight-game) singles win. Dicesarce won a tiebreaker. Parker-Dicesarce, Sanjee Srikantha-Carpenter and Seth Taylor-Connor Childers helped the Warriors sweep the doubles. Eastern Wayne improved to 3-1 overall.
