Rosewood tallied 15 runs on 10 hits and cruised past visiting Wayne Country Day 15-5 on Thursday evening.

The Eagles scored nine runs in the fourth inning thanks to four Chargers errors.

Cody Richards was 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBI for Rosewood. Robert Franks, Taylor Allen and Holt Rains all added two hits.

Cameron Ford had a double and three RBI for Wayne Country Day and Ryan Ford and Corey Roberts each added RBI.

Rosewood will face Spring Creek at 7 p.m. next Thursday in the Deacon Jones Invitational at Princeton. The Chargers face Louisburg High School in an Easter tournament at 7 p.m. on Monday at Louisburg College.

Eagles roll

Fourth-ranked Wayne Christian improved 3-1 on the year with an 11-4 drubbing of Village Christian on Thursday.

Adam Brannan, Dante Arthur and Jeremy Jefferson each had two hits and Michael Johnson added three hits and an RBI.

Jefferson got the win on the mound allowing two hits, five walks and striking out nine over 5 1/3 innings.

The Eagles play host to Community Christian on Mar. 31.

Leopards stalk Rebels

NEWTON GROVE -- Hobbton scored in five of seven innings and downed North Duplin 10-7 in non-conference play on Thursday.

Buddy Grady went 3-for-4 for the Rebels. Doug Lloyd, Marcus Kornegay and Billy Mello each added two hits. Trea Beavers was 1-for-3.

Lloyd took the loss on the mound.

North Duplin (2-4 overall) entertains Class 1-A Carolina Conference opponent North Johnston Apr. 1.

Softball

CBA stifles Warriors

PIKEVILLE -- Autumn Pittman scattered seven hits over seven innings and Anna Sullivan delivered a home run as Charles B. Aycock roughed up rival Eastern Wayne 9-2 on Thursday afternoon.

Sullivan finished 2-for-3, Brooke Edgerton was 2-for-4 and Brittany Ford (two RBI) went 2-for-3. Cara Frederick, Pittman, Amber Baker, Shamyka Polite, Jessica Hare, Torie Benton and Randi Tucker each had hits.

Casey Mitchell, Lindsey Frederick and Brianna Williams all recorded two hits for Eastern Wayne.

Pittman allowed two runs (one earned), struck out five and walked one. Lonnie Fricks took the loss for the Warriors.

Eastern Wayne entered the game on the heels of a 7-6, last-inning victory over Jacksonville White Oak on Wednesday. Casey Mitchell pushed home Morgan Smith on a bunt single to secure the comeback.

Brianna Williams led the Warriors with three hits in four at-bats. Lani Fricks added three hits and grabbed the mound win. She posted nine strikeouts and allowed two earned runs on seven hits.

The Golden Falcons (8-0 overall, 3-0 ECC) will compete Mar. 28 in the Eastern Tournament at Harnett Central. Aycock's first game is at 9 am. against Triton.

Eastern Wayne (4-8, 0-4) plays host to Kinston on Apr. 1.

Eagles toss no-hitter

Wayne Christian tossed its second consecutive no-hitter in a three-day period and defeated Village Christian 4-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Cynthia Burroughs recorded her first no-hitter of the season striking out 17 and allowing four walks.

Regan Hinton, Burroughs, Sarah McCollum, Kayla Kennedy (triple, RBI) and Courtney Barrow each had hits for the Eagles.

Village Christian's lone run came on an overthrow to second on a pick-off play.

The No. 1-ranked Eagles (5-0 overall) entertain Community Christian on Mar. 31.

Tennis

WCS cruises

RED SPRINGS -- Wayne Christian remained unbeaten with a 9-0 win at Flora MacDonald Academy on Thursday.

Taylor Gray, Matt Rouse, Woody Sasser, Chris Easom, Daniel Glover and Matt Thompson each earned singles wins for the Eagles.

The doubles tandems of Gray/Rouse, Sasser/Easom and Glover/Tyler Lacerda were also victorious for Wayne Christian.

The Eagles (4-0 overall) travel to Greene Central on Apr. 1.

EW wins big

Eastern Wayne strolled past Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference foe Wilson Hunt 9-0 on Thursday.

Drew Jackson, David Benton, Chris Knobling, Eric Barnes, Thomas Jackson and Charlie Umstead each recorded singles wins for the Warriors.

The doubles tandems of Drew Jackson-Benton, Knobling-Barnes and Thomas Jackson-Umstead were also victorious.

Eastern Wayne entertains Wilson Beddingfield on Apr. 1.

Track

Warriors win tri-meet

KINSTON -- Eastern Wayne swept both the boys and girls portions of an Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tri-meet with Charles B. Aycock and Kinston on Thursday.

The Warriors boys finished with a team score of 71 ahead of the Golden Falcons total of 58 and the Vikings mark of 43.

Individual boys winners for Eastern Wayne were Stacey Edwards (110 meter hurdles), Will White (100 and 200 meter dash), Tim Wright (mile), Stefan Henshaw (two-mile) and Cody Kirkham (high jump). The Warriors also finished first in the 800- and 400-meter relays.

First-place finishers for Aycock were Nick Redding (400 and 800 meters) and Khendra Reid (300 meter hurdles). The Golden Falcons also finished first in the 1,600-meter relay.

Eastern Wayne's girls tallied a scored 54, Kinston recorded an 83 and Aycock finished with 36.

Winners for Eastern Wanye were Brittani Billups (high jump), Jasmine Middleton (100 and 400 meters) and Noel Kelly (800 meters). The Warriors were also first in the 800-meter relay.

Chantel Gaines finished first for the Golden Falcons in the 200 meters.

Eagles dominate Gators

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Rosewood won both the boys and girls sides of a Carolina 1-A Conference dual-meet at Spring Creek on Thursday.

The Eagles won the boys meet with 86 points to the Gators 19 and captured the girls half 75 to 41.

Individual boys winners for Rosewood were Ahkeem Simms (high jump and 300 meter hurdles), Tyler Muntz (discus), Billy Page (long and triple jump, 400 meters), Cori Gibb (100 and 200 meters) and David Sass (mile).

First names were not provided for the girls results.

JV sports

* Eastern Wayne girls soccer 0, Charles B. Aycock 0 -- Sydney Potter led Eastern Wayne with three shots and Tiffany Toy added four saves in goal. The Warriors (2-0-3 overall, 0-0-1 ECC) plays host to Princeton on Apr. 4.

Middle schools

* Rosewood softball 19, Mount Olive 4 -- Brooke Neal earned the win on the mound for Rosewood. Rosewood welcomes Eastern Wayne on Apr. 1.
