Wilson Hunt keeper Brianne Meadows found herself bouncing back and forth, stretching and her team's biggest cheerleader in an attempt to stay loose on Friday night.
Meadows had little to occupy her time as the visiting Warriors pressured Eastern Wayne almost all night and came away with a 4-0, Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference win at Little Big Horn.
Eastern Wayne (2-3 overall, 1-1 ECC) threatened early with a shot that sailed just over the crossbar in the 11th minute. Moments later it had a pair of unsuccessful corner kick opportunities.
With Brandi Dean missing the game due to an injury, Eastern Wayne struggled to maintain its early offensive intensity.
Hunt struck in the 14th minute when Alex Hall took a crossing pass and beat Eastern Wayne keeper Danielle Daniel. Daniel, a sophomore, tallied six first half saves and Hunt led 1-0 at the half.
"We started out pretty well in the first half," said Eastern Wayne head coach Jorg Wagner. "We really had the first big chance of the match, and we were probably a little unfortunate. We had a marking error from the outside midfield on their first goal."
Brittany Raper kicked home a loose ball in front of the Eastern Wayne goal in the 56th minute extending the margin to 2-0.
Just moments later Hall broke free from the Eastern Wayne defense and beat Daniel in the left corner. Astin Barnes capped Hunt's scoring with a late goal.
Hunt tallied 10 second-half shots on goal and Daniel finished the game with 12 saves.
Eastern Wayne managed some possession late but was unable to generate a true scoring chance.
"In the second half we had five minutes of black out and we got shelled a little bit," Wagner said. "Once the third one falls, you could tell the game was not going to tip our way. Danielle is a fantastic goalkeeper and very intelligent. She doesn't make simple mistakes."
Eastern Wayne plays host to Wilson Beddingfield on Tuesday, while Hunt welcomes Charles B. Aycock.
