Sharks' Cole devours 12U ECSL competition

GREENVILLE -- Logan Cole logged top-three finishes in six different events among 12U competitors during the 2008 Eastern Carolina Swim League Championships contested this past week.
Cole, who swims with the Goldsboro Sharks, touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly in 1 minute, 11.8 seconds. He claimed silver medals in the 100 backstroke (1:08.59), 100 free (1:01.47) and 100 individual medley (1:12.43).
Cole picked up bronze medals in the 50 fly (30.45) and 50 backstroke (32.31).
Sarah Macut, a senior at Charles B. Aycock, recorded top-five finishes in three events. She placed second in the 50 free, third in the 100 IM and fifth in the 50 back. Macut is coming off an appearance with the Golden Falcons' relay team which advanced to the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A championships in mid-February.
Xander Robinson registered first-place times in the 500 free and 1,650 free events. He added a third-place showing in the 400 IM and ended up fifth in the 200 breaststroke.
Melvin Shipman earned top-five times in the 50 free, 50 back and 200 backstroke. Mason Chenier, a two-time NCHSAA state champion in the 50 and 100 free, placed first in the 200 free. He was second in the 100 IM and second in the 50 fly.
