MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive swept the singles and doubles matches in a 9-0, Conference Carolinas men's tennis victory over St. Andrews at the Walker Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon.
Fourth-seeded Aldo Barba and sixth-seeded Murlio Pelegrino each posted a straight-set shutout for the Trojans. Third-seeded Alex Queiros dropped just one game, while fifth-seeded Danny Mosteanu claimed a 6-1, 6-1 decision.
The No. 1 doubles of Guilherme Serra-Vitor Lage, ranked No. 7 regionally, had no trouble earning a point in sunny, but cold conditions. Frederico Barros-Indradeep Mitra and Queiros-Pelegrino also triumphed on the doubles scene.
Mount Olive (4-4 overall) remained unbeaten in three conference outings.
On the women's side, the Trojans swept the doubles and collected five singles points in an 8-1 conquest of the Knights.
Carol Aro, the Conference Carolinas player of the week, and senior Jennifer Moats combined for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Aros and Moats, an Eastern Wayne graduate, each claimed a straight-set victory in singles action.
Kristen Jones-Sophia Medeiros and Camila Kurebayashi-Monica Barone each earned a doubles point.
The Trojans (3-1) improved to 3-0 in league play.
Mount Olive returns to action Saturday at Erskine (S.C.) College and is the guest of the Anderson (S.C.) University on Sunday afternoon.
