PRINCETON -- Sweet revenge.

Less than four days after suffering a loss against its archrival, Spring Creek turned the tables Monday evening.

Shaquita Brooks poured in a season- and career-high 24 points as the Gators eliminated North Duplin 61-51 from the Class 1-A Carolina Conference girls' basketball tournament.

Spring Creek, the No. 6 seed, opposes regular-season champion North Johnston on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Kornegay Arena on the Mount Olive College campus.

Melanique DeVeaux complemented Brooks with nine points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Rebecca Coats and Jodie Williamson led the playoff-bound Rebels with 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Crusaders done

Faith Christian never got the offense going Saturday night, managing only 19 total points in their season-ending 34-19 loss to Falls Road Christian in the N.C. Christian Schools Association 2-A region playoffs.

Lindsey Godwin paced Faith Christian with nine points. No other Crusader scored more than two. Falls Road was led by Jordan Fisher's 16 points and were aided by Noelia Gonzales' nine.

Faith Christian concluded the year 12-7 overall.

Falls Road moves on to the NCCSA state tournament, which will be contested in Lexington this weekend.

Vikings oust CBA

Fourth-seeded Kinston eliminated fifth-seeded Charles B. Aycock 48-35 from the Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference girls' basketball tournament on Monday.

The teams combined for 40 made free throws.

"That was pretty rough, but tonight it worked out for us," Kinston coach Ira Jones said of each team's parade to the charity stripe.

Neither team found any rhythm in the first half, which ended 16-13 in favor of Kinston. Yolanda Pitt and Courtney Sheeks led the Falcons' offense, while Shaquala Rhodes and Sherita Gooding emerged the Vikings' leaders on both ends of the floor.

"Sherita's contribution doesn't always show up in the scorebook, but she is a very valuable asset to this team," Jones said.

The second half looked a lot like the first, with both teams shooting a lot of free throws. Kinston also used a suffocating, full-court defense to extend its lead to 38-22 after three quarters.

Pitt led Aycock with 19 points, while Rhodes scored 14.

Boys

Hunt rolls in ECC

WILSON -- Wilson Hunt got out of the gate fast and rolled over C.B. Aycock 83-52 in an opening-round, Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference tournament contest.

The third-seeded Warriors erupted for a 24-12 first-quarter lead and continued to build on it throughout the 32-minute contest. Guard Bobby White led Hunt with 16 points.

Khendra Reid and Andre Bryant tallied 14 and nine, respectively, for the Golden Falcons.
