TEACHEY -- Kendrick Thompson posted a double-double as Southern Wayne claimed a 52-48, non-conference victory over Wallace-Rose Hill on Friday.
Thompson collected 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Saints, who improved to 4-10. Desmond Raiford tallied 14 points and eight rebounds.
Javaris McMillan contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Southern Wayne opens its Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference season at home Friday against county archrival Eastern Wayne.
Warriors stumble
LaGRANGE -- Eastern Wayne endured an 11-minute, second-half scoring drought and dropped a 50-40, non-conference decision against North Lenoir on Friday.
The Warriors missed all 13 field goal attempts in the third quarter and managed just eight points in the final eight minutes of play.
Junior guard Chris McPhail led all scorers with 23 points, including 18 from 3-point range.

Rebels go down
CLINTON -- Trailing by two entering the fourth quarter, North Duplin was outscored 34-17 over the final eight minutes and fell 77-58 at Union on Friday night.
Chris Graham led the Rebels with a game-high 18 points. Larry George had 14 points for Union.
North Duplin (2-3) hosts Hobbton on Monday.
Girls basketball
Union downs ND
CLINTON -- North Duplin dropped to 2-3 with a 58-24 loss to Union on Friday evening.
Jessica Pridgen finished with nine points for the Rebels, Jodie Williamson had eight and Heather Hudson added five.
Warriors triumph
LaGRANGE -- Senior Brittani Billups pumped in 25 points as Eastern Wayne slipped past North Lenoir 55-50 at Wooten Gymnasium on Friday evening.
Tiarra McIntyre added 11 points for the Warriors.

Rams fall at home
SNOW HILL -- Greene Central's difficult journey through non-conference play encountered another bump in the road in the form of a 51-34 setback against visiting Ayden-Grifton on Friday.
Tete Pettaway paced the Rams (1-13) with 10 points, Brittany Jones had eight and Shonice Pettaway pitched in seven.
Greene Central begins Eastern Plains 2-A Conference play when it hosts Farmville Central on Friday.
JV basketball
* Rosewood boys 49, Wayne Country Day 41 -- Trevor Cox led the Eagles (3-7) with 13 points, Cody Harris added 12 and Jonathan Frakes scored 10. Rosewood hosts Parrott Academy on Wednesday.
* Greene Central boys 71, Ayden-Grifton 57 -- Marquice Grant, Malcom Dawson and Desmond Shepard each finished with 10 points for the Rams (4-8). Dawson and Grant pulled down 12 and 10 rebounds respectively.
* Eastern Wayne girls 45, North Lenoir 13 -- Carly Givens finished with 12 points for the Warriors (8-1). O'Teria Dortch and Morgan Smith each added seven points.
* Trinity of Durham girls 37, Wayne Christian 36 -- Wayne Christian rallied from an eight-point fourth quarter deficit and led twice in the final minute but couldn't hang on. Charity Wright and Carly Hightower each had 11 points for the Eagles, while Wright pulled down seven rebounds. Kayla Kennedy and Devan Isenhower both contributed seven points.
