WILSON --Trailing 24-19 at halftime, Eastern Wayne outscored Wilson Fike 26-9 in the third quarter and escaped with a 48-46 win on Wednesday night.

Fike outscored the Warriors 13-3 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome Eastern Wayne's third quarter surge.

Brittani Billups led Eastern Wayne (6-2 overall) with 14 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. Danielle Daniels pitched in 12 points, going 4-for-9 from 3-point range. Tiara McIntyre had 11 points and Eboni Reid handed out seven assists.

"We're extremely happy with this win after a tough game against our county rival (Goldsboro) the night before," Warriors head coach Brent Holland said."

Briana Virgil scored 13 points for Wilson Fike (2-4).

Eastern Wayne hosts Jacksonville on Tuesday.

Rosewood triumphs

Rosewood improved to 3-3 with a 54-45 non-conference win over visiting Hobbton on Wednesday.

Haile Meadows scored a team-high 19 points and Paige Babb finished with nine. Jennifer Hall added eight and Chantel Johnson contributed seven.

The Eagles host Midway on Friday.

WCDS downs Ridgecroft

Led by Bridgette Briggs' double-double of 25 points and 15 rebounds, Wayne Country Day downed Ahoskie Ridgecroft 50-37 on Wednesday evening.

Brooke Norris contributed 12 points and Kim Martell finished with six.

Hayes Bryant paced Ridgecroft with 22 points.

Wayne Country Day (3-7 overall) travels to Rosewood on Jan. 4.

Boys basketball

Eagles victorious

Stephen McIntyre pumped in 18 points, and Rosewood earned a 50-39 victory at home over Hobbton on Wednesday night.

Tyler Muntz added eight points for the Eagles.

Rosewood (3-3) entertains Midway on Friday.

Bulldogs rally for win

CLINTON -- Trailing the entire ballgame, Princeton over came a seven-point, fourth-quarter deficit and rallied for a 52-50 win at Union on Wednesday night.

Ryan Daughtry led the Bulldogs with 22 points, and his blocked shot at the buzzer helped preserve the victory. Chris Hinton finished with 14 points including 12 in the second half. Josh Barefoot had nine points and Will Gainey added six.

Terrance Douglas and Howard Bynum each had 12 points for Union.

Princeton (8-1 overall) travels to South Johnston on Wednesday.

Warriors fall to Fike

WILSON -- Wilson Fike's Jeremy Atkinson's game-high 26 points was too much for Eastern Wayne to overcome, as the Warriors fell 60-43 on Wednesday night.

Cody Kirkham finished with 11 points for Eastern Wayne and Daviyon Whisonant had seven. Orlando Midgette and Colton Butler each scored six points and Dominique Sadler added four.

The Warriors (1-7) host Jacksonville on Tuesday.

Chargers win big

Five players scored in double-figures to help guide Wayne Country Day to a convincing 94-48 rout of Ahoskie Ridgecroft on Wednesday night.

Aided by a 34-point second quarter, Wayne Country Day opened up a 51-31 halftime lead. The Chargers held Ridgecroft to just 17 second half points.

"Tonight was a total team effort," Wayne Country Day coach Terry Jones said. "We could not have entered into our break in better fashion."

Floronta Wynn finished with a game-high 22 points, Reco McCarter scored 21, Landon Case had 14 and David Wilson pitched in 10.

The Chargers travel to Rosewood on Jan. 4.

JV sports

* Hobbton boys 51, Rosewood 47 -- Cody Harris led the Eagles with 23 points and Shane Bodzielny had six. Rosewood (1-5) hosts Midway on Friday.

* Wayne Country Day boys 57, Ridgecroft 39 -- Stone Stewart led the charge for Wayne Country Day with 20 points and Cameron Ford contributed 10. The Chargers improved to 10-0.

* Wayne Country Day girls 20, Ridgecroft 18 -- Mach Thompson paced the Chargers (2-3) with 11 points. Kim Martell tallied five points and Sarah Best had four. Brice Harrison finished with six points for Ridgecroft.

Middle schools

* Spring Creek boys 33, Eastern Wayne 29 -- Damarian Henderson scored a game-high 17 points for Spring Creek and De'shar Thomas added seven. Javon Darden finished with 11 for Eastern Wayne. Spring Creek (2-3, 0-2) returns home to face Grantham on Monday.

* Spring Creek girls 38, Eastern Wayne 21 -- Talaya Lassiter led Spring Creek with 24 points. Janna Price and Ashley Parks each scored four. Divonnie Powell had seven points for Eastern Wayne. Spring Creek (3-2) entertains Grantham on Monday.
