Warren and Flow earn ECC honors

DUDLEY -- Southern Wayne head coach Bob Warren and fullback Kelvin Flow earned the top football awards recently selected by their Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference peers.
Warren was named the coach of the year after guiding the Saints to their first regular-season championship since 2000. Flow, who surpassed the 2,000-yard mark, shared player of the year honors with Wilson Hunt's Torez Jones.
The Saints (9-5 overall) posted a perfect 5-0 mark against ECC opposition and finished with nine wins. They lost to Rocky Mount in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A (small school) eastern semifinals.
Joining Flow on the All-ECC squad are teammates Tristan Bass, Desmond Raiford, John Kendall, J.D. Medlin, Ricky Oddon and Matthew Wise.
All-ECC picks from Charles B. Aycock are Kris Millard, Jacob Pendleton and Chris Bryant. Linebacker Nolan Lancaster and running back Hassan Best received first-team recognition from Eastern Wayne.
ECC coaches of the year are -- men's soccer, Kevin Adkins (C.B. Aycock); cross country, Sidney Myers (E. Wayne); women's tennis, Nancy Dawson (E. Wayne); volleyball, Davis Harris (C.B. Aycock) and Donald Mooring (Kinston) and women's golf, Glenn Jones (Hunt).
ECC players of the year are -- men's soccer, Alex Rodriguez (C.B. Aycock), volleyball, Brittani Billups (E. Wayne); women's tennis, Lindsey Frederick (E. Wayne); women's golf, Jasmine Reeves (E. Wayne); women's cross country, Caroline Schlaeppi (C.B. Aycock) and men's cross country, Nik Fredrick (C.B. Aycock).
Team sportsmanship winners are -- men's soccer, Beddingfield; women's cross country, Eastern Wayne; men's cross country, C.B. Aycock; women's tennis, Kinston; volleyball, Beddingfield and women's golf, Beddingfield.
All-conference teams with area players recognized are:
* Men's soccer: C.B. Aycock -- Rodriguez, Jorge Delgado, Drew Musselman, Tucker Pearson and Alex Roosen. Eastern Wayne -- Werner Wooten, Robbie Keys and Bryan Coltrane. Southern Wayne -- Mario Aguilar.
* Women's cross country: Eastern Wayne -- Leanna Kirkland, Kelly Gregorcyk and Sarah Schley. C.B. Aycock -- Schlaeppi, Megan Hales and Lorena Estrada.
* Men's cross country: C.B. Aycock -- Nik Fredrick and Dalton Denning. Eastern Wayne -- Tim Wright and Zach Parrish.
* Women's tennis: Eastern Wayne -- Frederick, Lauren Bynum and Casie Musgrave. C.B. Aycock -- Kristen Prosser, Courtney Barnes and Emilee Quinn. Southern Wayne -- Tara Hirsch and Kaitlyn Thornton.
* Volleyball: Eastern Wayne -- Billups, Brooke Newsome and Carrie Adams. C.B. Aycock -- Emily Jordan. Southern Wayne -- Christy Weaver and Meredith Davis.
* Women's golf: Eastern Wayne -- Reeves, Paula Webber and Erika Freeman. Southern Wayne -- Taylor Reaves, Jordan Hill, Alyssa Bradshaw and Taylor Scott.
Eastern Wayne has emerged the leader in the ECCWachovia Cup race after winning four regular-season titles during fall competition. The Warriors captured championships in women's tennis, women's golf, women's cross country and volleyball. They compiled 68.5 points, but lead Wilson Hunt by just one point.
C.B. Aycock is third with 54.5 points, followed by Southern Wayne (50), Wilson Beddingfield (49) and Kinston (29).
Points are awarded based on conference finish.
