Wayne Country Day senior Jeff Franklin reached the 1,000-point plateau during the Chargers' 55-36, non-conference win over county archrival Wayne Christian on Tuesday night.

Franklin's 3-pointer in the fourth quarter helped him achieve the milestone. He also pulled down six rebounds to go along with his three points.

Wayne Country Day outscored Wayne Christian 21-7 in the first quarter, and continued to pressure the Eagles (3-4) throughout the ballgame.

Floronta Wynn finished with 24 points for the Chargers, and Josh Gregory had 10 points and six rebounds. Kevin Martell chipped in nine points.

Wayne Christian's Eric Williams recorded a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Colton Woods had seven points and Jeremy Jefferson added five points and five rebounds.

Wayne Country Day visits Harrells on Thursday. Wayne Christian travels to Class 1-A Carolina Christian Conference opponent Johnston Christian on Friday.

Bulldogs win big

PRINCETON -- Ryan Daughtry poured in a game-high 27 points and Princeton cruised past the Eastern N.C. School for the Deaf 81-46 on Tuesday night.

Chris Hinton scored 11 points for the Bulldogs, and Josh Barefoot had nine. Benton Myers and Will Gainey each added six points.

Steven Hall led ENCSD with 22 points.

Princeton (5-1 overall) entertains Midway on Friday.

Eagles rout Midway

MIDWAY -- Three Rosewood players reached double figures and the Eagles picked up their first win of the season with a 71-45, non-conference drubbing of Midway.

Tyler Muntz led the way with 19 points. Stephen McIntyre chipped in 17 points and Taylor Allen had 11.

Rosewood (1-1 overall) visits Hobbton on Thursday.

Gators fall in OT

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Despite Melvin DeVeaux's 19 points, including going 8-for-8 from the free throw line, Spring Creek fell 70-69 in overtime to South Lenoir in non-conference play on Tuesday.

Courtland Jones contributed 16 points for the Gators.

Spring Creek (1-2 overall) gets a shot at redemption when it visits South Lenoir on Friday.

Rams suffer setback

WINTERVILLE -- Greene Central fell to 0-5 overall with a 64-58 loss at South Central on Tuesday.

Marcus Lee paced the Rams with 16 points.

Greene Central hosts Northern Nash on Thursday.

SW downed by JNS

JACKSONVILLE -- Jacksonville Northside sent Southern Wayne home with 66-53 loss on Tuesday night.

Jonathan Hart led the Saints with 14 points, and Dwight Smith pitched in 12.

Marcellus Perez scored a game-high 20 points for the Monarchs.

Southern Wayne (0-4 overall) travels to New Hanover on Thursday.

Girls basketball

GC has road woes

WINTERVILLE -- Greene Central's early season struggles continued with an 80-35 loss at South Central on Tuesday.

Shonice Pettaway led the Rams with 17 points, and Dominique Graham had 10.

Greene Central (0-5 overall) hosts Northern Nash on Thursday.

SC dealt home loss

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Melanique DeVeaux scored 20 points, pulled down six rebounds and handed out three assists, but it wasn't enough as Spring Creek fell 53-42 to visiting South Lenoir on Tuesday.

Sarah Parks had six points and two assists for the Gators.

Spring Creek (1-2 overall) travels to South Lenoir on Friday.

WCDS defeats WCS

Wayne Country Day topped county archrival Wayne Christian 50-33 on Tuesday night.

Bridgette Briggs scored a game- and career-high 20 points for the Chargers, and Catherine Ford chipped in 15. Brooke Norris had 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Hope Wright paced the Eagles with 12 points and Brittany Sullivan pitched in 11.

Wayne Country Day (2-4 overall) goes to Harrells on Thursday.

Swimming

EW splits meet

With a team score of 220 points, Eastern Wayne's boys swim team finished first in a five-team meet on Tuesday.

The Warriors finished ahead of Southern Wayne (119 points), Wilson Hunt (109), Charles B. Aycock (85) and Kinston 64.

The Warriors won seven out of eight individual events and swept the relays. Individual winners for Eastern Wayne were Zander Robinson (200 free, 500 free), Melvin Shipman (200 IM, 100 back), Mason Chenier (50 free, 100 free) and Matt Moulas (100 breast).

Chenier's time of 20.89 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle, as well as his 46.34 second time in the 100 free were both All-American times.

He became the first swimmer in Eastern Wayne history to reach All-American status, and the first swimmer in county and conference history to record two All-American times.

Eastern Wayne earned victories in the 200 medley relay, the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.

Fitch Carrera of C.B. Aycock finished first in the boys' 100 yard butterfly.

Wilson Hunt finished first on the girls side with a team score of 199 points. Aycock was second with 148, followed by Eastern Wayne (121), Southern Wayne (92) and Kinston (63) came in fifth.

Carrigan Chastain of Aycock won the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Southern Wayne's Grete Majerle earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Saints finished first in the 200 medley relay.

Wilson Hunt captured the 200 and 400 free relays.

JV sports

* Midway boys 37, Rosewood 33 -- Jonathan Franks led the Eagles (1-1 overall) with 13 points. Cody Harris added 11. Rosewood is the guest of Hobbton on Thursday.

* Wayne Country Day boys 59, Wayne Christian 34 -- Cameron Ford collected 12 points and Stone Stewart added 10 for the Chargers. WCDS visits Harrells Christian on Thursday.

* Wayne Christian girls 24, Wayne Country Day 18 -- Kayla Kennedy and Charity Wright supplied eight points apiece for the Eagles. Kim Martell pumped in eight points for WCDS. The Chargers (1-3 overall) travel to Harrells Christian on Thursday.

Middle schools

* Wayne Christian boys 43, Wayne Country Day 27 -- Chase Darden led the Eagles with 18 points and six rebounds. Josiah Davis had 12 points and six rebounds, and five points and seven boards. Wayne Country Day's Trent Proimos and Tee Uzzell each finished with a team-high six points. Matthew Davis had five, and Zachary Phillips and Cody Neal finished with four points apiece.
