North Duplin eases past Rosewood

CALYPSO -- Doug Lloyd threw touchdown passes as state-ranked North Duplin cruised past Rosewood 48-7 on Saturday evening at H.E. Grubbs Field.

The Rebels (9-0 overall) clinched at least a share of their second straight Class 1-A Carolina Conference title. They can earn the crown outright and a possible No. 1 seed for the postseason with a win over Spring Creek on Friday.

Lloyd threw first-quarter scoring strikes to Quentin Graham (11 yards) and Ryan Killette (30). He hit Robert McCullen (17 yards) for a second-quarter touchdown, and finished with 147 yards passing on 13 of 18 attempts.

Akeem Cox spearheaded the Rebels' ground attack with a 104-yard, one-touchdown effort on 18 carries. Billy Mello collected two touchdowns on runs of 1 and 2 yards, while James Stevens provided a 2-yard run in the final quarter.

The trio, along with Lloyd and Alan Schilling, combined for 182 yards rushing. Overall, North Duplin piled up 378 yards of total offense compared to 94 for the Eagles.

Rosewood avoided the shutout on Josh Holmes' 2-yard run with 1:31 left in the game.
