State-ranked North Duplin crushes Princeton

CALYPSO -- Akeem Cox rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns as state-ranked North Duplin crushed Princeton 33-13 in a Class 1-A Carolina Conference game at H.E. Grubbs Field.

Cox scored on runs of 17, 10 and 17 yards for the Rebels, ranked No. 5 in the latest Associated Press 1-A prep poll.

Quarterback Doug Lloyd completed six passes for 96 yards, including touchdown strikes to Robert McCullen (7 yards) and Chris Graham (19). The duo combined to catch all the balls thrown by Lloyd.

North Duplin owned a 364-118 edge in total offensive yards.

Princeton avoided the shutout with two fourth-quarter scores. Matt Williamson, son of head coach Russell Williamson, hauled in a 7-yard pass from Dylan Myers. Myers added a 4-yard touchdown run with less than five minutes remaining in the game.

Myers completed passes to three receivers in an 111-yard effort. Dillon Daughtry snagged a season-high nine completions for 81 yards. Williamson and Phillip Mitchell each caught one pass.

North Duplin (7-0 overall, 2-0 Carolina) travels to Ayden-Grifton next Friday. The Chargers (7-1, 2-0 CC) hammered Spring Creek by 57 points and are ranked No. 6 in the latest AP poll.

Princeton (2-6, 1-1) travels to county rival North Johnston next Friday.

Both games kick off at 7:30 p.m.
