KINSTON -- Jordei Osby recorded a double-double and Eastern Wayne clinched the Class 3-A Eastern Carolina Conference regular-season volleyball title outright on Thursday afternoon.
Osby supplied 10 kills and 10 blocks for the Warriors, who dumped Kinston 25-21, 20-25, 25-12, 26-24. The victory gave Eastern Wayne (18-1 overall, 9-1 ECC) the top seed for next week's conference tournament and the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs.
"We had a group of attacks, but they dug a lot of balls up," said seventh-year EW head coach Bruce Burridge. "We played strong and never put our head down. We really worked hard to cover the floor well.
"Overall, I thought we played well."
Brittani Billups complemented Osby with a match-high 21 kills off numerous balls from senior setter Brooke Newsome, who dished out 49 assists -- her second-highest, single-match total this season.
Billups added four service aces, one assist, six digs and two blocks. Frontline mate Alysa Artis provided a season-high 16 kills, three digs and two blocks.
Carrie Adams contributed four kills, five aces, 10 digs and two blocks. Anna Hajjar collected five kills and 10 digs, while Regan Stoneburner chipped in seven digs and two aces.
Ariel Bowman and Brianna Williams (eight digs) combined for five aces.
Eastern Wayne drew an opening-round bye for the tournament and will face an undetermined opponent at Wilson Beddingfield on Tuesday. Match time is 5 p.m.
